“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is returning to the airwaves less than a week after Disney announced it had pulled the comedian’s late-night show off the air due to comments made about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk<\/a>.<\/p>\n The ABC late-night show was\u00a0\u201cpre-empted indefinitely\u201d by the network on Sept. 17,\u00a0following\u00a0comments Kimmel made on a Sept. 15 episode<\/a>\u00a0regarding the fatal shooting of the conservative commentator\u00a0Charlie Kirk<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0apparent threats<\/a>\u00a0against ABC parent company Disney and network affiliates made by the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission,\u00a0Brendan Carr<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cLast Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a\u00a0tense situation at an emotional moment for our country<\/a>,\u201d Disney said in a Monday, Sept. 22, statement to USA TODAY. \u201cWe have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday, Sept. 23.\u201d<\/p>\n However, two of the largest media conglomerates in the U.S., Sinclair Broadcast Group<\/a> and Nexstar Media Group<\/a>, owners of roughly 70 TV stations affiliated with ABC across the country, recently announced that they would not be carrying the return of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d on their ABC affiliates.<\/p>\n Nexstar, based in Irving, Texas, owns five TV stations with coverage across Iowa, including one ABC-affiliated station in western Iowa. Sinclair owns one station in eastern Iowa, but it’s not an ABC affiliate.<\/p>\n Nexstar station KCAU-TV <\/a>in Sioux City is an ABC affiliate and will not air \u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2019 when it returns on Tuesday.<\/p>\n “We made a decision last week to preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s ‘ill-timed and insensitive’ comments at a critical time in our national discourse,” Nexstar said in a Tuesday news release. “We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.”<\/p>\n Nexstar’s ABC stations, including KCAU, will instead feature “local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets.”<\/p>\n \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d is set to return Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 10:35 p.m. CT on ABC.<\/p>\n ABC stations in Des Moines and the Quad Cities owned by Tegna, which Nexstar has announced plans to purchase<\/a>, are expected to air the show.
