Dave Bautista<\/a> will be able to channel his WWE past for his upcoming role in the Highlander<\/em> movie reboot.<\/p>\n Former WWE<\/a> Superstar Dave Bautista recently sat down with Steve Weintraub of Collider<\/a><\/em>. When asked what it was about the script of the upcoming Highlander<\/em> reboot that made him want to be part of it, Bautista revealed this is a role he\u2019s actually been chasing for a long time.<\/p>\n \u201cMan, this goes back a long time because I\u2019ve actually been chasing this role,\u201d Dave Bautista said. \u201cI think I probably tweeted about this role, about being the Kurgan, more than 10 years ago. I\u2019ve been chasing this role like I\u2019ve been chasing the Marcus Fenix role, just because I was a huge fan of the original Highlander.<\/p>\n \u201cI always loved Clancy Brown\u2019s performance as the Kurgan. I always wanted to be the Kurgan, I don\u2019t know why. There was something magical about that role. He\u2019s the villain I love to hate. Same with wrestling, I like being the bad guy, and that was the kind of role that I\u2019ve been searching for as far as being the bad guy.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, when this came about, this started tracking, and Chad had it, like, this is years now, years back when it was still with Lionsgate, because it\u2019s been a little bit of a bumpy road for this project as well. But I started tracking it then, and then when I heard that they moved over to Amazon MGM, right when it was kind of in a flux, and I was working with J.J. at the time, and I even asked him, \u2018Hey, man, can you put in a good word with Chad?\u2019 And he did.<\/p>\n \u201cHe started calling, putting in a good word for me. Chad came to The Killer\u2019s Game premiere, and he made sure that I had a moment to meet with Chad and tell him again how much I was interested in the role, and I did. I just came straight out. I don\u2019t play coy. If there\u2019s something I want, I aggressively pursue it, and I\u2019m very vocal about it. I\u2019m not too shy to tell you that I really want something.<\/p>\n \u201cSo he was there, and I just went up to him and said, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s good to see you again,\u2019 because we met years back. I said, \u2018Man, I\u2019m not going to mess around.\u2019 I was like, \u2018I want this role. Tell me what I\u2019ve got to do to get this role.\u2019 I think he was just like, \u2018Slow your horses. Slow your roll.\u2019 [Laughs] He wasn\u2019t there yet, but he said he\u2019d let me know, he was thinking about it, still thinking about the casting and everything.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is about a month and a half ago, now. I thought the role was gone, I thought it had been cast. I thought they moved on without me, and it wasn\u2019t going to happen. Out of nowhere, I got a call, and it was a call like, \u2018Hey, what do you think? You still want the role?\u2019 I was like, \u2018Fuck yeah, I want the role!\u2019 He was like, \u2018I\u2019m sending you the script. I\u2019ll call you tomorrow. We\u2019re going to talk about it.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cHe sent me the script, I read it, and the next day we talked about it. I was so blown away by the script because, without saying too much, this is such a great reboot. We\u2019re still paying tribute and giving a nod to the original. But making it new and fresh and exciting, and also just universe-building. It\u2019s just so much bigger than the original. The action is on par with John Wick. I\u2019m afraid I\u2019m going to say too much.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to give anything away, but I think people are going to be blown away by this because it\u2019s bigger than you imagine, and it\u2019s new enough that you won\u2019t be seeing the same thing. If you saw the original, you\u2019re still not going to know what the story is. It\u2019s just different, but still the same. I don\u2019t know if that makes sense.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s in that universe, but it\u2019s just something new and it\u2019s different, and it gives us places to go, and it\u2019s just bigger. I don\u2019t want to say better than the original, because the original is just so special to me. It\u2019s special to a lot of people. But it\u2019s just it\u2019s bigger and it\u2019s different and it\u2019s special, and it feels like a newer version of the Highlander.
