Jimmy Kimmel returns <\/a>to late-night television tonight following a suspension that lasted nearly a week.<\/p>\n “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is expected to broadcast ABC on Tuesday, Sept. 23, after Disney announced in a statement Monday that it reached the decision to allow the comedian back on the airwaves.<\/p>\n \u201cLast Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a\u00a0tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,\u201d Disney said the statement. \u201cWe have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n The reversal follows\u00a0a backlash in Hollywood\u00a0and calls to boycott Disney, with some pushing for Disney+ subscribers to cancel their accounts.<\/p>\n The ABC late-night show was\u00a0\u201cpre-empted indefinitely\u201d by the network on Sept. 17,\u00a0following\u00a0comments Kimmel made on a Sept. 15 episode\u00a0regarding the fatal shooting of the conservative commentator\u00a0Charlie Kirk<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0apparent threats\u00a0against ABC parent company Disney and network affiliates made by the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission\u00a0Brendan Carr.<\/p>\n Here’s what to know about Kimmel airing tonight.<\/p>\n \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d is set to return Tuesday, Sept. 23.<\/p>\n \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d airs on ABC and some of its affiliates. The show also streams on Hulu.<\/p>\n \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d begins at 11:35 p.m. ET\/10:35 p.m. CT.<\/p>\n In his show’s opening monologue on Sept. 15, Kimmel said supporters of President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0were “desperately trying to characterize”\u00a0Tyler Robinson<\/a>, the 22-year-old charged in Kirk’s murder, as “anything other than one of them.” Last week, Kimmel also criticized Trump for saying Democrats were responsible for Kirk’s death at a Utah campus on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n Watch the monologue below:<\/p>\n While there has been much speculation on who would be featured on Kimmel’s show on the night of his return, no guests have been officially announced as of Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n In a statement to USA TODAY on Monday, Sept. 22, a Sinclair representative said, “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live! across or ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming.”<\/p>\n Nexstar won’t be airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” either, according to the company’s news release<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n \u201cWe made a decision last week to preempt\u00a0\u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2019\u00a0following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel\u2019s \u2018ill-timed and insensitive\u2019 comments at a critical time in our national discourse.
