The cameras then cut to the late night host and his sidekick <strong>Guillermo Rodriguez<\/strong>, who were dressed up in a mouse and bananas suit, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Kimmel then took the stage for real, walking out to thunderous applause and a standing ovation where the crowd began chanting, \u201cJimmy! (Lear, who died in December 2023, was outspoken about his support for the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>After a throwback story about getting the boot by Larry in 1989, Kimmel pivoted to thanking his fellow late night hosts including <strong>Seth Meyers<\/strong>, <strong>Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong>, <strong>Stephen Colbert<\/strong> \u2014 \u201cWho has found himself in this predicament,\u201d Kimmel said \u2014 and \u201ceven\u201d <strong>Jay Leno<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Kimmel noted that hosts from other countries also reached out to him, including one guy from Germany. \u201cCan you imagine? This country has become so authoritarian the German\u2019s are like, \u2018Come here!\u2019\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<p>He also thanked fans of the show and viewers, many of who canceled their Disney+ subscriptions over the past week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cYou supported our show cared enough to do something about it to make your voices heard so that mine could be heard and I will never forget it,\u201d he said, also thanking people like Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens, who he \u201cnever imagined\u201d\u00a0 he\u2019d receive support from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes courage to speak out against this administration and they did and they deserve credit for it and thanks,\u201d he said. \u201cFor telling their followers that our government cannot be control what we do and do not say and TV.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kimmel than clarified his comments about <strong>Charlie Kirk\u2019s<\/strong> death while holding back tears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI\u2019ve been hearing a lot about what I need to do and say tonight and the truth is, I don\u2019t think what I have to say is going ot make much of a difference. if you like me you like me, if you don\u2019t, I have no illusions of changing anyone\u2019s mind, but I do want to make something clear because it\u2019s important to me as a human: it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything funny about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He continued, \u201cI posted a message on Instagram on the day [Charlie] was killed sending my love to his family asking for compassion, and I meant it and I still do. Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was a deeply disturbed individual. That was actually the opposite of the point I was trying to make but I understand to some that felt either ill timed or unclear or maybe both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Kimmel noted that he understands why some people were \u201cupset,\u201d noting he has \u201cmany friends and family members on the \u2018other side\u2019 who I love and remain close to even thought we don\u2019t agree on politics at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Tuesday\u2019s episode, which <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/jimmy-kimmel-live-guests-include-glen-powell-and-sarah-mclachlan\/\">features guest <strong>Glen Powell<\/strong> and musical artist <strong>Sarah McLachlan<\/strong><\/a>, marked the talk show\u2019s return nearly one week after it was abruptly pulled from the air.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> will <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/abc-pulls-jimmy-kimmel-live-indefinitely-amid-charlie-kirk-controversy\/\">be pre-empted indefinitely<\/a>,\u201d a spokesperson for ABC told <em>Us Weekly<\/em> in a statement on September 17.<\/p>\n<p>The move came after Kimmel sparked backlash with comments he made about the killing of conservative pundit <strong>Charlie Kirk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the September 15 episode of Live!, Kimmel spoke about <strong>Tyler Robinson<\/strong>, the man who was accused of fatally shooting Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cIn between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kimmel also joked about the way President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> responded to a reporter who asked how he was doing after Kirk\u2019s death. (Trump, 79, said, \u201cI think very good,\u201d and moved on to discussing the White House ballroom\u2019s remodel.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,\u201d Kimmel added. \u201cThis is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend.
