However, the film\u2019s massive success also carried a bittersweet edge-while it was a celebration for many, some found themselves weighed down by its overwhelming impact.\n<\/p>\n In an interview with Screen, Anupam Kher said that Saiyaara wiped out his directorial film Tanvi The Great from theatres, which pushed him into depression.\n<\/p>\n Anupam Kher told the website, \u201cI worked for four years on this film (Tanvi The Great), one year of writing, one year of music. I wrote and directed the film. We released the film on the same day when Yash Raj Films\u2019 Saiyaara was releasing and it got completely wiped out. It depressed me. It made me feel very sad, not just for myself, but for the new actor, whom I took from my acting school and almost 200 people worked on the film.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The veteran actor further said, \u201cThe financer of the film ran away a month before it\u2019s release. It\u2019s a costly film. So I called my friends who are doctors, lawyers, etc. They gave me the money. We did the world premiere at Cannes Film Festival. We went to New York where Robert De Niro saw a film till interval, and he thought it was good. We also showed the film to the President of India.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \u201cEverything was going fine, but the world wanted to see a love story and rightfully so. Young, teenage love story had not come for a long time and the system here is that even if you\u2019re releasing the film in 400 theatres, but if the other film is doing very well, they will remove your film. So it was a failure which was very heartbreaking for me,\u201d added Anupam Kher.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n About the surprising success of Saiyaara, Anupam Kher said, \u201cSaiyaara. Even Aditya Chopra must have been surprised by it, everyone was surprised but theek hai\u2026 thank God Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra are part of my family, I grew up in cinema with them.
