Raja Wodeyar I officially began the 10-day observance around 1610. <\/p>\n<p>The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil \u2014 specifically, the legend of Goddess Chamundeshwari (Durga) slaying the demon Mahishasura. <\/p>\n<p>Key traditions include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Navaratri (nine nights) leading up to Vijayadashami.<br \/>\n\u2022 Mahanavami (ninth day) when the royal sword is worshipped, processions with decorated animals.<br \/>\n\u2022 Vijayadashami (tenth\/eleventh day in 2025) \u2014 the grand procession called \u201cJumbo Savari\u201d (howdah-ride of the idol of the goddess), the illumination of the Palace, cultural programmes, and the torchlight parade Panjina Kavayatthu. <\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfaf What\u2019s Special in 2025<\/p>\n<p>Extra day added; festival spans 11 days instead of the more common 10. <\/p>\n<p>New attractions \/ events: air show, drone show, heritage walks, etc. <\/p>\n<p>Cultural inaugurations, exhibitions, and the city lit up in full glory. <\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udf1f Why It Matters<\/p>\n<p>Mysore Dasara is more than festival lights and pageantry \u2014 it\u2019s living history.
