Hoda Kotb<\/a> is offering a candid look into the end of her relationship with her ex-fianc\u00e9 Joel Schiffman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The former \u201cToday\u201d show anchor reveals in her new book, \u201cJump and Find Joy,\u201d that she knew the pair\u2019s engagement was over after she spent a week at the Hoffman Institute, which is known for helping individuals and couples with personal breakthroughs. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kotb writes that she felt like \u201ceverything had shifted\u201d and that the couple\u2019s \u201c\u2018us\u2019 felt different.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

During a session, Kotb wrote she \u201clooked around at all the people who\u2019d shared their raw truth\u201d and she \u201cfelt so moved by their honesty.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201c\u2018I am a total phony in my relationships,\u2019 I said. \u2018I\u2019m a pretender,\u2019\u201d Kotb admitted. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She wrote that the revelation was \u201cone of the best ten-second decisions\u201d of her life. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

When asked by Today.com what she meant by identifying as a \u201cpretender,\u201d the author elaborated. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI think sometimes you know that a relationship is \u2014 I would say good \u2014 but you think to yourself it\u2019s not deepening,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI loved Joel then, and I love Joel now. I just had to remind myself that it was a different kind of love,\u201d Kotb added. \u201cYou can still love and admire someone and not want to be in a relationship, a long-term relationship that way, personal relationship.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Kotb and Schiffman were first linked in 2013 and got engaged in November 2019. They share two adopted daughters: Haley and Hope. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
