Boulez was a composer, conductor, innovator, educator, and the Orchestra\u2019s Music Director from 1971\u201377.<\/p>\n<p>Back-to-back subscription programs will take place at the Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center from October 3 \u2013 11 spotlighting two of his former compositions along with post-concert discussions and an archival exhibit exploring Boulez\u2019s life and legacy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen \u2014 Boulez\u2019s close associate and friend, who was recently named the future creative director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, creativity and innovation chair of the Philharmonie de Paris, and principal conductor of the Orchestre de Paris \u2014 will lead the Orchestra in both concert programs.<\/p>\n<p>The October 3\u20135, 2025, concerts will feature three selections from Boulez\u2019s <em>Notations <\/em>in both their original solo-piano versions and their full orchestral versions, led by Salonen. The program also features several works by Boulez\u2019s countryman Debussy: <em>Gigues <\/em>and<em> Rondes de Printemps<\/em>, from <em>Images<\/em>, Fantasie for Piano and Orchestra, and <em>La Mer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"377\" src=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/boulez.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-567366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/boulez.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/boulez-357x175.jpg 357w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>On October 9\u201311, 2025, Salonen leads Boulez\u2019s <em>Rituel in memoriam Bruno Maderna <\/em>in the New York Premiere of a production co-commissioned by the NY Phil, LA Phil, and Orchestre de Paris. The production features original choreography by Benjamin Millepied (in his NY Phil debut) performed by L.A. Dance Project (NY Phil debut). The program also includes works by two composers Boulez championed as NY Phil Music Director: Bart\u00f3k\u2019s Concerto for Orchestra and Stravinsky\u2019s Octet.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Philharmonic\u2019s celebration of Pierre Boulez\u2019s centennial, which began in the 2024\u201325<br \/>season, has included a side-by-side performance of his <em>Sur Incises<\/em> by Musicians from the Philharmonic and students from the Juilliard Orchestra, in October 2024; a remounting of a program Boulez curated as Music Director on a <em>Sound On<\/em> concert in January 2025; the unveiling of <em>C\u2019est Boulez!<\/em>, an archival exhibit in David Geffen Hall, in the spring of 2025; and the release of more than 13,000 pages of Boulez materials by the New York Philharmonic <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyphil.org\/explore-more\/archives\/\">Shelby White &amp;Leon Levy Digital Archives<\/a> in March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets to New York Philharmonic performances may be purchased online at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyphil.org\/\">nyphil.org<\/a> or by calling (212) 875-5656, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
