More than 20 years after her tragic passing at the age of just 22, Aaliyah<\/strong> is still making history. The late singer has just notched her very first No. 1 on Billboard\u2019s Adult R&B Airplay<\/strong> chart with the posthumous release \u201cGone\u201d featuring Tank<\/strong>. Aaliyah and eight other people died in a plane crash in the Bahamas in August 2001.<\/p>\n According to Billboard<\/a>, the track, released on Blackground Records, shot to the top of the Sept. 27 chart after a 23 percent surge in radio play during the Sept. 12\u201318 tracking week. It\u2019s a long-awaited milestone for Aaliyah, who saw 14 entries on the chart during her lifetime but never claimed the top spot.<\/p>\n Her previous best? A soulful 1994 cover of the Isley Brothers\u2019 \u201cAt Your Best (You Are Love),\u201d which peaked at No. 4. Her breakout hit \u201cBack and Forth\u201d also reached No. 6 that same year. Only Alicia Keys<\/strong> (14), Toni Braxton<\/strong> (11), and Mary J. Drake released \u201cEnough Said\u201d in 2012, Chris Brown sampled her for \u201cDon\u2019t Think They Know\u201d in 2013, and The Weeknd\u2019s \u201cPoison\u201d climbed the R&B charts in 2022.<\/p>\n Both \u201cPoison\u201d and \u201cGone\u201d are expected to appear on Aaliyah\u2019s long-teased posthumous album Unstoppable. The record was originally slated for 2022 but has been repeatedly delayed.
