{"id":2047824,"date":"2025-09-25T00:59:18","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T00:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2047824"},"modified":"2025-09-25T00:59:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T00:59:18","slug":"customer-service-proves-sadness-can-be-fun-with-new-music-video-the-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/customer-service-proves-sadness-can-be-fun-with-new-music-video-the-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Customer Service proves sadness can be fun with new music video &#8211; The Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Customer Service\u2019s newest music video is a hilarious drag-fueled accompaniment to an emotional track full of longing and a tinge of hope, and it feels like a balance only they can strike.<\/p>\n<p>The Halifax-based emo band released their single <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nUwYTdzIWTo&amp;ab_channel=CustomerService\">\u201cNever Meant To\u201d<\/a> on Sept. 10 in the lead-up to their third EP, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/customerservicemusic.bandcamp.com\/album\/if-youre-here-you-must-be-fine\"><em>If You\u2019re Here, You Must Be Fine<\/em><\/a>. The song itself features mid-west riffs, an energetic chorus contrasting low-key verses, and lyrics about flicking through old memories and dredging up ancient feelings. It\u2019s another fantastic showing from the band, and it\u2019s only elevated by its music video.<\/p>\n<p>A mid-2000s throwback. Four typical nerds sit around, playing Wii Sports, wondering how they can change themselves to pick up girls at a slumber party. They copy Fred Durst\u2019s hand gestures. They learn to jump while shredding a guitar. They even wear period-appropriate clothing, including a bandana-hat combo that screams 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The girls they\u2019re trying to impress? Well, it\u2019s the band in drag\u2014an idea that came about due to, in part, a time crunch. The band toured all throughout August, and the filming was done in the few days they could spend at home with their video production friends at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/moosecanfly.com\/\">MOOSECANFLY<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"perfmatters-lazy-youtube\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nUwYTdzIWTo\" data-id=\"nUwYTdzIWTo\" data-query=\"feature=oembed\" onclick=\"perfmattersLazyLoadYouTube(this);\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><noscript><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Customer Service - &quot;Never Meant To&quot; (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nUwYTdzIWTo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe just kind of wanted to do the really classic narrative, like, over-the-top cliche girl slumber party and over-the-top cliche nerds, as well,\u201d says vocalist Matt Cheverie in an interview with The <em>Coast<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019ve been doing (drag) for years. It\u2019s about time that I got these guys to join me.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>The video is also a celebration of Customer Service, in a way, with multiple references to the band throughout, including a portrait of the cover art for their first EP, <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/customerservicemusic.bandcamp.com\/album\/live-more-forever\">Live More Forever<\/a><\/em>, painted by guitarist Max Hayden\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe video we put out for it was lots of fun to do, and it\u2019s been really nice hearing what people have to say about it,\u201d says drummer Nick Adams. \u201cWe just tried something a little different, had a lot of different costumes for ourselves, a little skit at the start and stuff. Some of it comes from their inspirations, mostly bands like Mom Jeans and Modern Baseball, but it\u2019s also part of their philosophy as a band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are acutely aware that writing about an emotional time\u2026 it only feels as crazy as when you\u2019re going through it,\u201d says Cheverie. \u201cThere\u2019s a human element that\u2019s a little bit funny, and I think we can be tongue-in-cheek about some of that stuff sometimes and have fun with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all writing about these times where we\u2019re really down bad, but then we get to jump and dance around with our three best friends on stage\u2026 it kind of has to be fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-2    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>There\u2019s no doubting the relationship between Cheverie, Hayden, Adams and drummer Owen Harris. On top of writing music and touring across Canada together, they also all live in the same house. While not all of them were turned onto the emo stylings that they would adapt, Adams says living together shaped all of their tastes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally soon after starting the band, we did all move into a house together\u2026 and from that point on, we kind of listened to a lot of the same music together. Somebody in the house would be playing something, and (we) kind of had more of a collective taste from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their camaraderie is palpable during their live shows. There\u2019s no doubt whether or not they\u2019re all having a good time on stage\u2014Harris in his iconic hat, keeping it down on the drums while the others bounce off each other musically and physically. Harris says that the differences between each track on the EP will be incredibly apparent.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-4    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cEvery track feels super different. The next song is very much influenced by bands like Title Fight. The last track in the EP, \u201cRiley Workman 2: Working Harder\u201d, feels more like a traditional Modern Baseball song.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s still fun and goofy, but it just all sounds bigger and better and tighter, and like all the musical decisions are smarter than they were in the past.\u201d<br \/>Customer Service\u2019s new EP, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/customerservicemusic.bandcamp.com\/album\/if-youre-here-you-must-be-fine\"><em>If You\u2019re Here, You Must Be Fine<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> releases on Oct. 31.
