The Golden Bachelor<\/em> star Mel Owens<\/a><\/strong> had a clear message for people who might be skeptical to watch him star on season 2 of the ABC dating show.<\/p>\n \u201cThe women are great, and you\u2019re going to see that they\u2019re great,\u201d Owens, 66, told Us Weekly<\/a><\/em> in an interview published just hours ahead of the season’s premiere on Wednesday, September 24. \u201cThey carry the show. They\u2019re wonderful, and they\u2019re feisty and smart, and truly, you\u2019re going to see the passion from them. It\u2019s a great, great show.<\/a> Tune in and you\u2019re going to see a lot of good things.\u201d<\/p>\n Owens previously made headlines<\/a> in June when he said on the “MGoBlue” podcast that he would prefer to date women between the ages of 45 and 60, despite the show featuring women up to 77 years old. Many fans also took issue with him telling producers that he didn’t want any of his potential love interests to have \u201cwigs or artificial hips.\u201d<\/p>\n In light of the comments, several fans said they wouldn’t watch the sophomore season. However, Owens admitted he wasn’t fully aware of how intense the backlash was, including some people demanding he be re-cast.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not really on social media, so I didn\u2019t even know that. People are sending me screenshots and saying, \u2018Oh, my God, are you still there?’\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I go, \u2018I am,\u2019 because I didn\u2019t hear anything to the contrary. But I really didn\u2019t give it too much thought, because that\u2019s noise, I guess, and chatter in the background. Now, I\u2019m 66 \u2014 it\u2019s been 25 years in between.
