Belv’s tribute to his late mother, \u201cMommas Boy<\/a>,\u201d is blowing up on TikTok in the United Kingdom and around the world after Brit influencer Carlasbackk<\/a> used the track in a video showcasing her two teenage sons.<\/p>\n \u201cI’m scrolling and I hear the song and at first I didn’t know how TikTok worked. I thought that someone remade my song,\u201d said Belv, aka James Anderson. \u201cI’m like, that’s crazy. But then someone showed me I had to press the icon on the right and I saw there were 400-something posts of my song where people were using it as backgrounds and I’m like that’s dope.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI did it all for you, I hope you’re proud of me. I’m looking in the sky, I hope you’re smiling at me,\u201d rhymes Belv on the mid-tempo trap beat groover delivered with heart.<\/p>\n Bulletproof Belv’s “Mommas Boy” is a viral hit for the Asbury Park rapper.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Belv’s mom, Arlene Anderson of Asbury Park, passed away in 2019 at the age of 63. \u201cMommas Boy\u201d was partly inspired by an Asbury Lanes act by Belv that his mom attended.<\/p>\n \u201cShe came to only one show because she worked a lot \u2014 the Asbury Lanes show,\u201d Belv said. \u201cI froze up. I forgot the words to the song we were playing but I said keep playing the guitar and I saw my mother and I started speaking to her and congratulating her on being there and having a son who is doing something and how much I love her and miss her and how I miss my dad. How she stood up and became the head of the household.<\/p>\n “I got off stage and somebody came up to me and said I did a great job,” he continued.<\/p>\n “I said, \u2018Nah, I messed up.\u2019<\/p>\n “[They responded by saying], \u2018We didn’t know you forgot your words \u2014 as soon as you started speaking to your mom the crowd said aww!’ \u201d<\/p>\n Belv has performed and recorded with top sellers like Fetty Wap and Albee-Al, and his club crossover \u201cDark City Lights,\u201d with rocker Matty Carlock, has become an anthem for the new Asbury Park music scene.<\/p>\n The track \u201cMommas Boy\u201d appears on Belv’s 2020 EP of the same name.<\/p>\n The song was produced by Carlock, and the cover features a childhood pic of Belv’s mom.<\/p>\n \u201cFor this many people to reach out and listen to it and my other songs and having my mother’s childhood face on the cover \u2014 it\u2019s more about they’re getting to see my mother’s face,\u201d Belv said.<\/p>\n Visit instagram.com\/bulletproof_belv<\/a> for more on Bulletproof Belv.<\/p>\n Jon Stewart drums and Rick Barry plays guitar during Church and State TM’s performance April 28 at Georgies Bar in Asbury Park.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The drummer for the Asbury Park band Church and State TM knows something about rock ‘n’ roll. He was a bartender at the fabled City Gardens in Trenton, so he saw greats like the Ramones and Bad Brains up close.<\/p>\n We’re talking about Jon Stewart, who has been moonlighting on drums for the Rick Barry-fronted Church and State TM. So far they\u2019ve only played unannounced pop-up shows.
