On Sept. 25, 1987, 20th Century Fox<\/a> unveiled The Princess Bride<\/a> in theaters. The Rob Reiner<\/a>-directed comedy would initially gross a modest $30 million in theaters but live on as an cult classic. The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s original review of the movie is below:<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be interesting to see how Rob Reiner describes Princess Bride<\/a> on the talk shows. It\u2019s swashbuckling, bright, breezy and delightful, but it defies pigeonholing. It doesn\u2019t have a hook or lend itself to a one-sentence description. But then Rob Reiner certainly isn\u2019t lending himself to similar pigeonholing with his wide-ranging films.<\/p>\n

Princess Bride<\/a> will be a challenge for 20th Century Fox\u2019s marketing department it\u2019s an adults\u2019 film in children\u2019s garb but it\u2019s one that will likely be a labor of love for the marketeers.<\/p>\n

Look for strong word-of-mouth, featuring a lot of \u201cI know it sounds silly, but you\u2019ll like it\u201d-type recommendations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
