Sherri Shepherd didn\u2019t let herself be fooled by a recent religious belief that was trending on social media because she had already been burned by it.<\/p>\n
Shepherd explained<\/a> during her talk show on Wednesday that a paster in South Africa said Jesus came to him in a dream and said he was going to return to Earth on Sept. 23<\/a> to bring his true believers to heaven. This sent TikTok into a frenzy<\/a> as followers of Christ started to prepare for the \u201cRapture.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the actress-comedian admitting that she believes in this Christian phenomenon, she also said she didn\u2019t fall for it after being burned in the past. <\/p>\n \u201cI have been through this before,\u201d Shepherd, 58, told her audience<\/a>. \u201cI used to be in a religion that told me that the Rapture was coming. They told us to get our house in order. And I said, \u2018Why? I\u2019m not going to need a house where I am going. I don\u2019t need those worldly possessions.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Under this belief, the \u201cSherri\u201d host ignored her financial obligations. <\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t pay my bills. I didn\u2019t pay my taxes. I did not pay my traffic tickets because why would I pay anything when the world\u2019s about to end?,\u201d Shepherd said. \u201cMy registration had been expired for two years. I had seriously $10,000 worth of unpaid moving violations.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the traffic citations, the host didn\u2019t show up to court, joking that \u201cJesus don\u2019t care about no parking tickets!\u201d<\/p>\n Unlucky for Shepherd, said she \u201cthe world never ended,\u201d and she \u201cwent to jail.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI went to jail for eight days. And because I fell for the Rapture, I became a hardened criminal,\u201d she joked. \u201cSo thank God we are all still here.\u201d <\/p>\n The Rapture is a Christian belief that entails that all true believers will meet Jesus Christ and go to heaven. Those who are \u201csaved\u201d will ascend, while others left on Earth will face a period of tribulation before the Second Coming of Christ. <\/p>\n While the term \u201crapture\u201d isn\u2019t in the Bible, the belief is based on interpretations of passages such as 1 Thessalonians 4:16\u201317, where Paul describes believers being \u201ccaught up\u201d to meet the Lord. <\/p>\n A prediction that the Rapture would occur Tuesday spread through social media in recent days, The New York Times reported<\/a>. The hashtag #rapture has been used in over 361,000 TikTok videos<\/a> to date.
