The \u201cSpaceballs 2\u201d<\/a> cast was confirmed Thursday as Amazon MGM Studios shared a photo from the upcoming sequel\u2019s first table read. <\/p>\n The black-and-white picture confirms Rick Moranis (Lord Dark Helmet), Bill Pullman (Lone Starr),\u00a0Mel Brooks (Yogurt and President Skroob), Daphne Zuniga\u00a0(Princess Vespa) and George Wyner\u00a0(Colonel Sandurz) are all reprising their roles from Brooks\u2019 1987 \u201cStar Wars\u201d spoof. <\/p>\n Brooks, 99, appears on Zoom in the center of the group photo, surrounded by the cast and creatives. Brooks is writing the sequel\u2019s script with Josh Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. <\/p>\n New cast members Gad,\u00a0Keke Palmer,\u00a0Lewis Pullman\u00a0and\u00a0Anthony Carrigan also appear in the photo. They are all playing brand new characters. <\/p>\n Director Josh Greenbaum (\u201cWill & Harper\u201d<\/a>) is in the image, as well.<\/p>\n Amazon has not revealed the official plot for \u201cSpaceballs 2,\u201d set for release in 2027.<\/p>\n A tentative logline jokingly describes the film as, \u201cA Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.\u201d<\/p>\n The original \u201cSpaceballs\u201d also starred John Candy as Barf, Dick Van Patten\u00a0as King Roland and Joan Rivers as the voice of Dot Matrix.<\/p>\n Brooks confirmed his involvement in the sequel in June, sharing a message<\/a> with the infamous \u201cStar Wars\u201d opening crawl.<\/p>\n \u201cIn 38 years there has only ever been one \u2026 SPACEBALLS,\u201d the opening crawl said, followed by, \u201cUntil now..\u201d<\/p>\n In a video message, the EGOT winner said, \u201cAfter 40 years we asked what do the fans want, but instead, we\u2019re making this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n Voice projects aside, Brooks has not appeared in a movie since his cameo in 2005\u2019s \u201cThe Producers,\u201d the movie adaptation of the 2001 Broadway musical which was based on Brooks\u2019 1967 film of the same name.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Moranis, 72, took a\u00a0step back from acting<\/a>\u00a0in 1992 to focus on being a dad to daughter Rachel and son Mitchell after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, died of breast cancer. <\/p>\n In 2020, he signed onto a new \u201cHoney, I Shrunk the Kids\u201d sequel, but the project was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n Moranis told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in 2015: \u201cI took a break, which turned into a longer break. But I\u2019m interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role, and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was working with really interesting people, wonderful people. I went from that to being at home with a couple of little kids, which is a very different lifestyle. But it was important to me,\u201d\u00a0he added. \u201cI have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n In Oct. 2020, Moranis was randomly punched in the head<\/a> and knocked to the ground while walking on Central Park West in New York City.
