These films join \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere\u201d and the world premieres of \u201cSong Sung Blue\u201d and \u201cThe SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants\u201d in the red carpet lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">AFI Fest also announced a robust slate of films to join its Special Screenings section. These movies include \u201cBad Apples,\u201d \u201cBugonia,\u201d \u201cThe Choral,\u201d \u201cThe Chronology of Water,\u201d \u201cIs This Thing On?,\u201d \u201cA Magnificent Life,\u201d \u201cMerrily We Roll Along,\u201d \u201cNebraska Live,\u201d \u201cRebuilding,\u201d \u201cRental Family,\u201d \u201cThe Testament of Ann Lee\u201d and \u201cTrain Dreams.\u201d \u201cBad Apples\u201d from director Jonatan Etzler will have its U.S. premiere at the festival, while Thom Zimny\u2019s \u201cNebraska Live\u201d will have its world premiere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>More from TheWrap<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"ct:story;elm:img;itc:0;\" class=\"stretched-box\" href=\"https:\/\/thegrill2025.splashthat.com\/PRONewsletters\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"relative\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"247\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/KeQJou8N4L.pnuh_waCiog--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTk2MDtoPTI0NztjZj13ZWJw\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/thewrap.com\/c749df9235ad8e514caa65588639d526\"\/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Zimny has worked with Bruce Springsteen on a number of projects, including the concert films \u201cBruce Springsteen &amp; The E Street Band: Live in New York City\u201d and \u201cSpringsteen on Broadway.\u201d The filmmaker won an Emmy for each, scoring Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special for the former and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special for the latter. \u201cNebraska Live\u201d marks another collaboration for the two, a black-and-white performance of Springsteen\u2019s iconic album \u201cNebraska.\u201d This album is also at the center of fellow AFI Fest film, \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Directed by Etzler, \u201cBad Apples\u201d is a dark satire following Saoirse Ronan as a school teacher on the brink who inadvertently kidnaps a problem student from her classroom. The German comic thriller, based on Rasmus Lindgren\u2019s novel \u201cDe O\u00f6nskade,\u201d premiered at TIFF in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A number of high-profile directors will screen their latest works at AFI Fest. \u201cBugonia,\u201d the new collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, was announced as part of the Special Screenings section. Also in that section is Bradley Cooper\u2019s newest directorial effort, \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d \u2014 following Will Arnett as a longtime father and husband who takes up stand-up comedy in the shadow of divorce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201cJay Kelly\u201d (premiering Thursday, Oct. 23), which stars George Clooney as an aging movie star and Adam Sandler as his manager, helps round out the Red Carpet Premiere section. James Vanderbilt\u2019s film about the Nuremberg trials (premiering Friday, Oct. 24), based on \u201cThe Nazi and the Psychiatrist\u201d by Jack El-Hai, will also screen in the section. Rounding out the new Red Carpet Premiere entries are \u201cChristy,\u201d which stars Sydney Sweeney as acclaimed boxer Christy Martin, and \u201cDead Man\u2019s Wire,\u201d the first film from Gus Van Sant since 2018. Both films premiere on Saturday, Oct. 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">AFI Fest, presented by Canva, will run from Oct. 22 to Oct. 26.
