In a sign that the Gen X nostalgia market remains viable, especially for indie rock, the Replacements\u2019 revered 1984 album Let It Be<\/em> is returning \u2014 again. An expanded version of the album was rolled out many years ago, but on Nov. 21, it will be blown out into an even bigger, three-CD or four-LP box set filled with outtakes and rarities \u2014 including \u201cStreet Girl (Takes 1 and 2)\u201d, a never-heard song from the album sessions that was unveiled today.<\/p>\n The year 1984 was an epic one for indie rock, one that gave us Husker Du\u2019s Zen Arcade<\/em>, the Minutemen\u2019s Double Nickels on the Dime<\/em>, and R.E.M.\u2019s follow-up to Murmur<\/em>, Reckoning<\/em>. But Let It Be<\/em> still stands tall in the way it undeniably showcased the emerging range and depth of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Paul Westerberg\u2019s songwriting. Either one of the two versions of \u201cStreet Girl,\u201d a jaunty and rough-hewn homage to a knowing woman in his life, could have fit onto the finished Let It Be<\/em>.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n The deluxe edition of Let It Be<\/em>, out Nov. 21, will include that entire album and that outtake along with alternate takes of \u201cFavorite Thing\u201d and the heartbreaking \u201cSixteen Blue\u201d and full-length versions of \u201cUnsatisfied\u201d and \u201cAndrogynous,\u201d the latter with an alternate Westerberg vocal. In addition to \u201cStreet Girl (Takes 1 and 2),\u201d the box includes another unheard song, \u201cWho\u2019s Gonna Take Us Alive.\u201d<\/p>\n The expanded Let It Be <\/em>also packs in\u00a0Goodnight!
