It’s almost October, but things are just starting to heat up down in Oklahoma. The Lowdown<\/em>, a new original noir crime comedy, has finally premiered on FX. After a busy summer of TV with shows like Peacemaker<\/a><\/em>, Task<\/a><\/em>, and Alien: Earth<\/em><\/a>, The Lowdown<\/em> is here to usher in sweater-weather coziness with good old southern hostility.<\/p>\n The Lowdown<\/em>, from Reservation Dogs<\/em> cocreator Sterlin Harjo<\/a>, stars Ethan Hawke as a freelance journalist prone to conspiracy theories whose investigation into a powerful Tulsa family leads to the story of his career. The show is loosely based on the life of real-life Oklahoma citizen journalist and historian Lee Roy Chapman, whose work for This Land Press<\/em> exposed Tulsa city founder Tate Brady as someone with deep connections to the Ku Klux Klan. Chapman died in 2015.<\/p>\n In addition to Hawke as the eccentric reporter Lee Raybon, the show also stars Keith David, playing a private investigator hired to tail Lee, and Kyle MacLachlan<\/a> as a gubernatorial candidate whose family’s skeletons have been recently exposed by Lee. Also starring in the series are Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kaniehtiio Horn, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Macon Blair. Tim Blake Nelson (whose character’s alleged suicide kicks off the story) and Peter Dinklage also command notable supporting roles.<\/p>\n Autumn means back-to-school season, Halloween decorations, football games, and steeling oneself to put up with relatives for Thanksgiving.
