Sherri Shepherd heard the predictions that the Rapture would occur on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and she didn\u2019t fall for it \u2014 this time.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s because the former cohost of \u201cThe View\u201d previously bought into another rapture prophecy. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have been through this before. I used to be in a religion that told me that the Rapture was coming,\u201d Shepherd recalled during the Wednesday, Sept. 24, episode of her \u201cSherri\u201d talk show. \u201cThey told us to get our house in order. And I said, \u2018Why? I\u2019m not going to need a house where I am going. I don\u2019t need those worldly possessions.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Shepherd\u2019s belief in the impending apocalypse had serious consequences for her.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t pay my bills. I didn\u2019t pay my taxes. I did not pay my traffic tickets because why would I pay anything when the world\u2019s about to end?\u201d she explained. \u201cI had, seriously, $10,000 worth of unpaid moving violations. \u2026 Why would I show up to court when the world is about to end and I\u2019m about to get taken up to heaven? Jesus don\u2019t care about no parking tickets!\u201d<\/p>\n
The unpaid bills and missed court dates caught up to Shepherd eventually.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe world never ended. I went to jail,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI went to jail for eight days. Because I fell for the Rapture, I became a hardened criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n
