The search for the next Air Bud<\/a><\/strong> is over.<\/p>\n A new Air Bud movie, titled Air Bud Returns<\/a>, is currently in the works. Coming from Cineverse<\/a> and Air Bud Entertainment, the movie is being written and directed by Robert Vince<\/a> and is expected to arrive at some point in 2026.<\/p>\n After receiving thousands of submissions from families all across the country, Air Bud Entertainment has now announced that two Golden Retrievers will play the titular canine in Air Bud Returns: Charlie and Summer.<\/p>\n Both dogs will undergo training with professional trainers before filming begins on October 1, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada.<\/p>\n Check out a first-look video<\/a> introducing Air Bud fans to Charlie and Summer\u00a0here (watch more trailers and clips<\/a>):<\/p>\n \u201cThe Search for the Next Air Bud has been an incredible journey,\u201d Vince said in a statement. \u201cWe weren\u2019t just looking for well-trained dogs \u2014 we were looking for that special spark. They carry the magic that made the original so unforgettable.\u201d<\/p>\n A description of the forthcoming movie\u2019s plot, via Variety<\/a>, reads, \u201cIn Air Bud Returns, 12-year-old Jacob has always dreamt of being a star basketball player. After the passing of his father, that dream felt even more impossible. But everything changes when he and his mom move into his dad\u2019s childhood home in Fernfield. There, Jacob discovers an original VHS of the \u2018Air Bud\u2019 movie in his father\u2019s belongings and has a chance meeting of a stray golden retriever he names Buddy. Together, they embark on a journey of healing, unite a team of misfits, and chase a championship.
