James Van Der Beek <\/strong>couldn\u2019t be more proud of his daughter after she performed in his honor at the recent Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em> reunion in New York . <\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the cast joined together for the benefit event, which Van Der Beek was unable to attend after contracting a stomach virus<\/a>. Although Van Der Beek couldn\u2019t make it, his family still headed to the Big Apple<\/a> to reunite with his former cast mates.<\/p>\n

The event included a\u00a0live reading<\/a> of the show\u2019s pilot episode \u2014\u00a0and proceeds benefited F Cancer, an organization close to Van Der Beek\u2019s heart after he was diagnosed with\u00a0stage 3 colorectal cancer\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

To close out the evening, the cast gathered for a special performance of the show\u2019s theme song, \u201cI Don\u2019t Want to Wait,\u201d during which Van Der Beek\u2019s daughters, Olivia<\/strong> and Emilia<\/strong>, joined the crew to sing along.<\/p>\n

After the event, Van Der Beek took to Instagram<\/a> to celebrate his daughter\u2019s performance \u2014 particularly highlighting Olivia, who was also celebrating her 15th birthday<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy oldest turned 15 today. Same age that Dawson was in the pilot,\u201d Van Der Beek wrote. \u201cTo watch you stand there in that red dress, so confidently taking center stage amidst all those people I\u2019ve known so long and cherish so deeply\u2026 I\u2019m just left in awe.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to note her accomplishments over the past year and encourage her to do big things in the future. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always joked that you came out \u2018parent proof,\u2019 but this last year, as I\u2019ve watched you accelerate into so many big decisions, jump into so many activities, budget your time, do your homework and your hair (which, from my point of view, seem to require roughly the same amount of time & focus \ud83d\ude02)\u2026 the less I think the parent-proof thing is a joke<\/a>,\u201d Van Der Beek shared. <\/p>\n

He added heartfelt message, reminding her to \u201ckeep taking big swings,\u201d \u201ckeep dreaming big\u201d and always \u201crisk imperfection.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMost importantly, be true to who you are. Because, while only YOU will know exactly who your most authentic self will be, as someone who\u2019s known you your whole life<\/a>\u2026 I can guarantee you\u2019re going to love her,\u201d Van Der Beek concluded. <\/p>\n
