Tim Allen<\/a> has forgiven the man who killed his father more than 60 years ago, inspired by Erika Kirk\u2019s powerful eulogy<\/a> for her husband, Charlie Kirk<\/a>, in which she forgave his killer.<\/p>\n The Shifting Gears<\/em><\/a> star took to X on Thursday (September 25), writing, \u201cWhen Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: \u201cThat man\u2026 that young man\u2026 I forgive him.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0That moment deeply affected me. I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cI will say those words now as I type: \u201cI forgive the man who killed my father.\u201d Peace be with you all.\u201d<\/p>\n Allen\u2019s father died in 1964 when a drunk driver struck his car. The Home Improvement<\/em><\/a> alum was only 11 years old at the time and over the last six decades has struggled to come to terms with what happened.<\/p>\n \u201cIt changed everything forever,\u201d Allen told AARP<\/em> in a 2012 interview<\/a>. \u201cPart of me still doesn\u2019t trust that things are going to work out all right. I knew my father was dead, but I was never satisfied with why he was dead.\u00a0I wanted answers that minute from God. \u2018Do you think this is funny? Do you think this is necessary?\u2019 And I\u2019ve had a tumultuous relationship with my creator ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n In a 2011 interview with Esquire<\/em>,<\/a> the Toy Story<\/em><\/a> star said he\u2019s \u201cnever gotten over\u201d his father\u2019s death. \u201cAs children, your world is yours. That day taught me that it\u2019s really not your world. Somebody else is in control \u2014 fate, God, whatever it is. It is not your show,\u201d he stated. \u201cAnd the show can be brutal. Brutal in its coldness. Brutal in its love and affection. S**t can hit you straight between the eyes, and you never saw it coming.\u201d<\/p>\n Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley University earlier this month as part of his America Comeback Tour.\u00a0He was 31 years old.<\/p>\n At his memorial service, his wife, Erika, forgave the man accused of his killing, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, saying he was the type of \u201cyoung man\u201d her husband \u201cwanted to save.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOur Savior said, \u2018Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.\u2019 That man, that young man \u2026 I forgive him,\u201d an emotional Erika said. \u201cI forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it\u2019s what Charlie would do.\u201d<\/p>\n
