Pixar<\/strong> had a live-action film<\/strong> titled 1906<\/strong> in the works before the studio opted to put it on hold. Michael Hirst, who was roped in to pen the screenplay of the movie, has now revealed the reason behind its supposed cancelation. In a recent interview, the veteran screenwriter shed light on why Pixar chose to scrap the project, while also opening up about his decision to walk away from the film.<\/p>\n During a recent discussion with MovieWeb<\/a>, Michael Hirst noted that Pixar\u2019s live-action film on James Dalessandro\u2019s 1906 novel was abandoned as the studio wanted to convey a story with \u201cheroes\u201d rather than \u2018\u201dordinary people.\u201d<\/p>\n Originally planned to be helmed by Brad Bird, the Pixar movie would have depicted the disastrous events of the 1906 earthquake that devastated San Francisco. Explaining what went down during the initial production phase of Pixar\u2019s first live-action feature, Hirst noted, \u201cDo you know why San Francisco was saved in the sense that it wasn\u2019t totally burned out? It was saved by ordinary people going out of their houses, [and] finding some water.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t the authorities that put out the flames; it was ordinary people. They bulldozed some of the houses\u2026They lived and died doing that, and they stopped the fire. I wrote about that, and I was pleased, and I thought, \u2018My God, Americans are going to be really interested.\u2019 [But] the studios had no interest in that at all, because it wasn\u2019t heroes [who] saved the day, it was ordinary people.\u201d<\/p>\n However, sensing that the studio would not budge from its stance, Hirst decided to resign from the project. \u201cI said, \u2018But you\u2019re an American, you\u2019re supposed to like ordinary people.\u2019 \u2018No, no, no, we want heroes.
