Judas Priest<\/a> frontman Rob Halford thinks the state of homophobia in the United States has changed very little since he came out roughly 30 years ago.<\/p>\n The openly gay metal singer shared his thoughts about homophobia in the U.S. during an interview on \u201cQueer The Music\u201d podcast, which is hosted by Scissor Sisters singer Jake Shears.<\/p>\n \u201cAmerica is still incredibly homophobic. I\u2019ve lived here for a long time and I\u2019ve seen a lot happen since the \u201980s,\u201d said Halford, who publicly came out in 1998.<\/p>\n \u201cIt really gets me angry and upset. But when I go on stage and perform with Priest, some guys will say, \u2018I love Judas Priest, but I\u2019m not gay,\u2019\u201d the singer, who married his longtime partner Thomas last year, continued. \u201cYou know that thing \u2013 \u2018I\u2019m a huge fan of Priest, but I\u2019m not a gay guy\u2019 \u2013 that still lives with me now to some extent. It might be a fraction.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Halford did say that Judas Priest fans have routinely accepted his sexuality.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I walk out on stage, when Priest is doing headline tours and I know that everybody has come there to see this band and hear the songs that we\u2019ve made and watch us perform, surely they\u2019re there with complete acceptance in their heart,\u201d he said on the podcast. \u201cEverybody in that room is, like, \u2018Well, we don\u2019t care\u2019 \u2014 as they shouldn\u2019t. They shouldn\u2019t care. This labelling, it shouldn\u2019t be a part of anything. They shouldn\u2019t care. It\u2019s about what you\u2019re doing. It\u2019s about your art and your craft and your work. That\u2019s all that matters.\u201d<\/p>\n He also discussed his coming out on the podcast episode, describing it as being \u201cvery natural.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt was just a pure stream of consciousness, just talking away. And so it just came into the conversation, and that was that,\u201d he said while explaining that he revealed his sexuality while talking about another band.<\/p>\n \u201cI heard somebody\u2019s clipboard drop on the floor, because I had literally formally announced to the world that I\u2019m a gay man,\u201d Halford said. \u201cSo I did that show. I went back to the hotel, sat in the room, going, \u2018What have I done? What have I done?\u2019 And I was, like, \u2018I don\u2019t care.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Halford has joined Judas Priest in 1973 and has received multiple accolades such as a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance<\/a> in 2010. He is known for his powerful and wide ranging operatic vocal style and trademark leather-and-studs attire.<\/p>\n Halford recently revealed that Judas Priest is working on a cover of Black Sabbath\u2019s \u201cWar Pigs\u201d<\/a> that will feature vocals from Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOzzy\u2019s singing a line and then I\u2019m singing a line, and Ozzy\u2019s singing a line and I\u2019m singing a line,\u201d Halford said during a an episode of the \u201cFull Metal Jackie\u201d<\/a> podcast. \u201cIt\u2019s the first ever time in my entire life that I\u2019ve been able to do a duet with Ozzy and I\u2019m so eternally grateful and blessed that I was able to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n While Halford did not have an official release date for the \u201cWar Pigs\u201d cover, he did say it should drop in the near future.<\/p>\n \u201cThe green button\u2019s almost ready to go,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be pretty soon.\u201d<\/p>\n Read the original article on MassLive<\/a>.
