Robert Plant, the legendary lead singer and lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin \u2014 who was revered by many as being one of the greatest singers in rock music \u2014 will release \u201cSaving Grace,\u201d a new album of cover songs \u2014 his first solo album in eight years in fact \u2014 on Friday, Sept. 26.<\/p>\n
The release will be Plant\u2019s 12th solo album overall, not counting his Grammy-winning collaborations with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, it was revealed in a story on syracuse.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n The album features his new band of the same name, including vocalist Suzi Dian, and showcases his work with other prominent musicians on a \u201csong book of the lost and found.\u201d<\/p>\n FYI: The album came to fruition during lockdown and features a diversified range of songs from artists like Low, Blind Willie Johnson and Moby Grape \u2014 together in a down home folk-style.<\/p>\n According to Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a>, \u201cSaving Grace\u201d is similar to his 2010 Americana album \u201cBand of Joy\u201d \u2014 named after his then band Band of Joy, featuring Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller. <\/p>\n In addition to Suzi Dian, \u201cSaving Grace\u2019s\u201d lineup is comprised of drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player, Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown, who \u201cmix Americana with folk and blues music.\u201d<\/p>\n Highlights include a rendition of \u201cCan I Do It For You\u201d by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy, who recorded the original version of Led Zep classic \u201cWhen the Levee Breaks,\u201d in addition to covers of songs by psychedelic rock band Moby Grape (\u201cIt\u2019s a Beautiful Day Today\u201d), gospel blues legend Blind Willie Johnson (\u201cSoul of a Man\u201d) and indie band Low (\u201cEverybody\u2019s Song,\u201d the album\u2019s lead single). <\/p>\n Plant and his bandmates sought to also put a modern spin on traditional songs like \u201cI Never Will Marry\u201d and \u201cGospel Plough.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSaving Grace\u201d \u201cbrings a more European aesthetic to their take on American roots.
