Sherri Shepherd admitted this week that her belief in the rapture once landed her in trouble of biblical proportions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The talk show host joked to her \u201cSherri\u201d studio audience<\/a> that she \u201cdidn\u2019t plan\u201d on showing up to work Wednesday \u2014 because she figured the rapture, the biblical event that some Christians believe will sweep them up to heaven with the second coming of Jesus, would\u2019ve taken place. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She explained that her assumption was based on \u201ca pastor in South Africa\u201d who claimed \u201cJesus came to him in a dream\u201d and revealed the event would take place Sept. 23.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cEverybody on TikTok started spreading the word that the rapture was coming yesterday,\u201d Shepherd said. \u201cPeople were getting their affairs in order, but it didn\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Shepherd emphasized that she stands strong in her faith but said she wasn\u2019t falling for the \u201cokie doke\u201d this time, because she has been through this before.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI used to be in a religion that told me that the rapture was coming,\u201d she said. \u201cThey told us to get our house in order, and I said, \u2019Why? I\u2019m not going to need a house. Where I am going, I don\u2019t need those worldly possessions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Back then, she fully committed to the narrative \u2014 so much so that she decided to forgo paying her bills, taxes and traffic tickets, convinced that the rapture would make all of these worldly acts irrelevant.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cMy registration had been expired for two years,\u201d she said. \u201cI had, seriously, $10,000 worth of unpaid moving violations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Her unpaid tickets eventually escalated, because she \u201cdidn\u2019t show up to court.\u201d But in her mind, why bother with court when you\u2019re preparing for eternal glory? <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The comedian said she was \u201cnot expecting to go to jail,\u201d because at the time of her arrest, she was dressed for a night on the town to perform at a comedy club.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
