The Season 37 opener for The Simpsons<\/a><\/em> is bringing it back to simpler times for TV dramas.<\/p>\n In the episode, titled \u201cThrifty Ways to Thieve Your Mother,\u201d blue-haired matriarch Marge Simpson (voiced by Julie Kavner<\/a>) pulls out her \u201990s videotape collection and introduces daughter Lisa (Yeardley Smith<\/a>) to teen drama Keagan\u2019s Pond, <\/i>a play on The WB\u2019s Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n As they bond, Marge even pushes Lisa to try on her vintage clothes. But the mini dresses and crop tops from the Simpsons\u2019 attic catapult Lisa into a troublesome social group of Euphoria<\/i><\/a>-like fashionistas (one of which is voiced by Oh, Mary!<\/em>\u2018s Cole Escola<\/a>), who are obsessed with thrifting. \u201cWhen they run out of clothes and the thrift stores prove, ironically, too expensive, they will go to desperate measures to get more retro fashions,\u201d teases showrunner Matt Selman<\/a>.<\/p>\n The episode\u2019s idea, says Selman, came from writer Jessica Conrad, as did the many retro-inspired outfits viewers see. And yes, Selman admits that the concept is \u201ca little bit of a Simpsons<\/em> paradox,\u201d given that the animated series premiered before the \u201990s era they\u2019re referencing as being Marge\u2019s youth (in this particular episode, at least).<\/p>\n
