But once cast, producers advised him to stop. \u201cThey basically said, don\u2019t watch it because you, this isn\u2019t about reenacting something. So I guess the trick\u2026is just to bring myself to it and do as best I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Murtagh\u2019s position <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/leisure\/arts-and-culture\/a65478916\/outlander-blood-of-my-blood-family-tree-character-guide\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:within the Fraser family;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">within the Fraser family<\/a> adds another layer. \u201cHe is associated with the Frasers and he kind of has to do what love asks him and show his loyalty there. But he is also an outsider,\u201d Alexander says. In his youth, it\u2019s his heart that leads him directly to it. At the Beltane Festival in episode five, Murtagh finally gives into his feelings for Ellen MacKenzie (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/leisure\/arts-and-culture\/a65564419\/outlander-blood-of-my-blood-harriet-slater-jamie-roy-ellen-mackenzie-brian-fraser\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Harriet Slater;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Harriet Slater<\/a>) whose hand is spoken for by Malcolm Grant, the son of a very powerful laird. Even though it\u2019s a bit of a game to put one\u2019s name in the ring to stand beside the May Queen, it\u2019s still perceived as a great risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cHe\u2019s sat there and he\u2019s thought it through,\u201d Alexander says, \u201cThen there\u2019s just a moment where she has stood alone and there\u2019s no one in front of her. It\u2019s kind of a moment that he\u2019s dreamed of. Longtime <em>Outlander<\/em> viewers will know how their lives will be intertwined in their twilight years <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/leisure\/arts-and-culture\/a24789631\/outlander-sneak-peek-season-4-episode-2-aunt-jocasta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:in the American colonies;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">in the American colonies<\/a> many years later, so their scenes together here carry significant weight\u2014especially when they kiss, and Murtagh mortifyingly utters Ellen\u2019s name instead of Jocasta\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cHe is at his most vulnerable and there\u2019s this facade of being drunk, which is helpful and it kind of allows him a bit more freedom and his guard is down, but it\u2019s heartbreaking,\u201d Alexander says. \u201cStill, acting with Sadhbh is so fun.
