Rebecca Gayheart is sharing how she and her family are doing amid husband Eric Dane\u2019s ALS diagnosis. <\/p>\n
The \u201cBeverly Hills, 90210\u201d alum, 54, said she and the \u201cEuphoria\u201d star\u2019s, 52,\u00a0two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, are \u201ctaking it day by day.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we\u2019re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love,\u201d Gayheart added.<\/p>\n As she put it: \u201cI mean, it\u2019s heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and we\u2019re just trying to get through it. It\u2019s a tough time.\u201d<\/p>\n ALS is a rare degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord along with causing progressive loss of muscle control. The disease has long been nickname Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease after the iconic baseball player who had the condition in the 1930s.\u00a0<\/p>\n Gayheart and\u00a0Dane tied the knot in 2004. In 2018, the actress\u00a0filed for divorce.<\/p>\n However, Gayheart filed to dismiss their divorce<\/a>\u00a0in March.<\/p>\n The \u201cJawbreaker\u201d star told People about Dane\u2019s diagnosis: \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m at a place yet where I can pull out a positive nugget. I\u2019m not there yet.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, we\u2019re definitely dealing with something that has brought us all together, and Eric will always be my family, whether we\u2019re married or not, or living in the same house or not, but yeah, we are closer, but we don\u2019t like the reason why,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a horrible disease, and I wish that there was a cure. I hope they find one soon, because it is just so sad.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents,\u201d Gayheart told\u00a0E! News\u00a0<\/a>in April about their relationship status. \u201cWe really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite their ups and downs, the \u201cUrban Legend\u201d star doesn\u2019t consider their relationship any less of a success<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It\u2019s just a season,\u201d confessed Gayheart. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that\u2019s a successful relationship, and that\u2019s how we look at it.\u201d<\/p>\n A day after Gayheart\u2019s comments, Dane announced he has\u00a0amyotrophic lateral sclerosis<\/a>\u00a0(ALS).<\/p>\n \u201cI have been diagnosed with ALS,\u201d he told\u00a0People<\/a>\u00a0in a statement at the time. \u201cI am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of EUPHORIA next week,\u201d the actor continued. \u201cI kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n Dane is set to reprise his role as Cal Jacobs, the father of Jacob Elordi\u2019s character, Nate Jacobs, on Season 3 of the HBO drama.<\/p>\n After years of delays, the \u201cLast Ship\u201d actor began filming his scenes on April 14, per People.<\/p>\n Following Dane\u2019s admission, Gayheart\u00a0posted a photo of herself and their daughters\u00a0via Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cHolding onto my girls tight and loving them hard today,\u201d she penned. \u201cSo many broken hearts and shattered dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Dane missed out on his planned appearance<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a02025 Emmy Awards<\/a>. <\/p>\n Hours later, he showed up in a video on Instagram to promote a new campaign to help find a cure<\/a> for ALS.<\/p>\n Dane sported a navy T-shirt that read \u201cI AM ALS,\u201d and addressed his diagnosis while showing signs of the neurodegenerative condition.<\/p>\n
