But, for some, it\u2019s\u00a0<em>Bluey<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"WP665715304\">\u201cIt was making them think that naughtiness is funny\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Michelle Barrow, on social media under her band\u2019s name, Mama Nous, has taken to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DOo4NxGkmza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram<\/a>\u00a0this week with her husband, sharing an update on her household\u2019s ban <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/17\/entertainment\/this-bluey-moment-leaves-parents-shocked\/#!\">on the show\u00a0<em>Bluey<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now three weeks into the ban, Michelle said she\u2019s noticed some drastic changes in the behavior of her twin boys, saying that\u00a0<em>Bluey<\/em>\u00a0was causing them to have tantrums, and push boundaries.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A mom took to social media to explain why the show <em>Bluey<\/em> is banned in their home. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Disney+\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Michelle Barrow and her husband say the household\u2019s ban on Bluey is because her kids would throw \u201cimmediate tantrums when the show\u2026 is over.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">mama_nous\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt typically starts with them just constantly pushing boundaries, or immediate tantrums when the show\u2026 is over,\u201d her husband said.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle added that the episode format was specifically to blame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t see that so much with slower paced shows, but also just longer shows,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"50\" src=\"https:\/\/embeds.nypost.com\/protected-iframe\/ae07a3726bec0fc91a840dddea9d294c\" scrolling=\"auto\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"\" allow=\"camera; fullscreen;\"><br \/>\n\t<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt didn\u2019t matter with\u00a0<em>Bluey<\/em>\u00a0how much we would set expectations of \u2018This is how many episodes we\u2019re going to watch\u2019. It\u2019s something about that eight-minute format where they\u2019re just like \u2018More, more, just one more\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though each episode includes positive behaviours and encourages good morals, the pair said their children weren\u2019t receptive to this, adding that they rejected claims it was a low-stimulation show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the biggest piece that I started to notice after we took a break from it was the ways in which it was making them think that naughtiness is funny, and that pushing boundaries is a joke,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cThere\u2019s not a lot of conflict resolution in an eight-minute episode, and I know that each one wraps up with a moral, but at least for our kids, I feel like they weren\u2019t getting to that moral well,\u201d Barrow said. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Disney+\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not a lot of conflict resolution in an eight-minute episode, and I know that each one wraps up with a moral, but at least for our kids, I feel like they weren\u2019t getting to that moral well.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"WP723548730\">\u201cThe episodes are too short and seem like cocaine\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>It turns out, the couple weren\u2019t alone in their beliefs, with a number of commenters sharing their own stories of the episodes simply being too much.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiterally episode 2: the dad is saying \u2018no\u2019 during \u2018hospital\u2019 play and the kids are jabbing him roughly repeatedly and laughing. If anyone says \u2018no\u2019 in our family that has to be a hard stop. I\u2019m raising two boys \u2013 I don\u2019t play about disrespecting \u2018no\u2019. We never turned it on again,\u201d one person said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to send\u00a0<em>Bluey<\/em>\u00a0on vacation multiple times. The episodes are too short and seem like cocaine to our kids. Just one more bump!\u201d another related.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the episodes are lovely and low energy \u2013 Rain, Sleepy Time, the Creek \u2013 but I agree that some of them are too much for our kids,\u201d said a third.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"WP575329363\">\u201cI actually thought this was a joke!\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>But, the naysayers were certainly in the minority, with Bluey-loving parents flooding to the comments to sing the show\u2019s praises.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Others praised the show. \u201cBluey to our family feels slow paced and funny with a good message. I feel the opposite. Bluey to our family feels slow paced and funny with a good message. I also love how much it brings the parents into the show \u2013 you rarely see parent characters playing with the children in such an imaginative, kind way,\u201d said one person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love Bluey, the messages, the authenticity and the playfulness. It\u2019s one of the best things on television for children, [in my opinion],\u201d another agreed.<\/p>\n<p>Others suggested the disconnect was simply a cultural difference, adding that for Aussies, this kind of \u2018cheeky\u2019 behaviour is completely normal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah nah,\u00a0<em>Bluey<\/em>\u00a0is an amazing show, a pretty on point portrayal of a normal Aussie family. It teaches morals and values of a good family, kids are meant to push boundaries and to feel comfortable doing that. Cheekiness is a part of Aussie culture, literally everyone is taking the piss with everyone all the time. So maybe that just doesn\u2019t gel with you guys,\u201d one commenter suggested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s also a HUGE difference between Australian culture and American culture which means, from an American perspective, some things will hit differently. I also think Bluey\u2019s target families are ones with cheeky kids, irreverent dads, mums trying to find the right balance, etc. The delivery is important because these slightly chaotic, funny, and what we would call \u2018larrikin\u2019 families aren\u2019t picture perfect.
