Celebrities, politicians, and regular folks alike have weighed in on the killing, the politics surrounding his death, including free speech, and more. Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em><\/a> was even suspended for six days<\/a> after host Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>\u2018s remarks about President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s reaction to Kirk\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n During a recent sit-down with The New York Times<\/em><\/a>, Penn, 65, declared that \u201cwe need\u201d people like Kirk\u2019s despite the Mystic River<\/a><\/em> actor disagreeing with \u201calmost everything\u201d he stood for.<\/p>\n \u201cWe need that debate,\u201d Penn told the publication. \u201cWe\u2019ve gotta fight it out and find a compromise. [Acts of political violence] do come into fashion, and the way we kill the fashion of it is people of conscience on both sides recognizing that if somebody really believes something, that\u2019s your friend.\u201d<\/p>\n Additionally, Penn called for the nation to recognize viewpoints that differ from their own as \u201cvalid opinions.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m talking about if somebody believes that a human being starts at conception, if you can\u2019t understand that concept, you\u2019re just stupid,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd if you\u2019re not willing to tolerate the concept as a concept that\u2019s held as deeply as I may have a belief that, I don\u2019t know, let the woman decide.
