The cult musical \u201cChess\u201d \u2014 which had only 68 regular performances on Broadway before closing in 1988 but spawned a hit soundtrack by two members of ABBA \u2014 is making a comeback <\/a>nearly 40 years later.<\/p>\n

The box office for a revival of the show opened Monday \u2014 and fans lined up as early as 3 a.m. outside the Imperial Theatre for tickets and a limited-edition poster signed by stars Lea Michele, Aaron Tveit and Nicholas Christopher. <\/p>\n

(Only the first 50 ticket buyers scored exclusive posters, which sent the line snaking down West 45th Street before dawn.) <\/p>\n

Said an insider: \u201cAmong the early risers [was] a group of women who had already purchased tickets online, but came back for more,\u201d plus fans who were armed with Playbills from the original Broadway run.<\/p>\n

Adding to the nostalgia: Michele made her Broadway debut<\/a> 30 years ago in \u201cLes Mis\u00e9rables\u201d at the Imperial. <\/p>\n

The show \u2014 with music and lyrics by \u00a0Benny Andersson, Bj\u00f6rn Ulvaeus and Tony winner Tim Rice \u2014 follows a Cold War chess tournament between two grandmasters. <\/p>\n

The soundtrack included the hit \u201cOne Night in Bangkok,\u201d which hit No. 3 in 1985 before the show\u2019s West End run in 1986.<\/p>\n

The revival has a new book by celebrated screenwriter Danny Strong, whose credits include \u201cDope Sick,\u201d \u201cEmpire\u201d and \u201cGame Change,\u201d while Michael Mayer is directing the new production. <\/p>\n
