ORLANDO, Fla. — Walt Disney World<\/a> has tweaked its Tron Lightcycle\/Run<\/a> ride at Magic Kingdom<\/a> theme park. The changes are notable, but neither drastic nor permanent, for the futuristic indoor\/outdoor roller coaster.<\/p>\n We made a couple of rounds on the first day of the revamping. Here are things to know before trekking to Tomorrowland for the \u201cTron: Ares\u201d<\/a> overlay.<\/p>\n Obvious even to non-riders will be the amped up lighting package built into the sloped canopy of the ride. Thanks to adaptable LED technology, there are new hues and effects to absorb as the ride vehicles zoom past, as well as in between the streams of screams.<\/p>\n The colors have subtle changes. What may appear blue can fade into a purple or a teal. The roof can go all red \u2014 though those moments seem spread out for maximum effect \u2014 or it can present a mashup from its palette.<\/p>\n Along with the ride\u2019s usual streaking-polygram effects, the canopy light show now includes swirling motions, waves of color changes and pulsating intensity.<\/p>\n But it changes quickly. One moment, Tron is very blue, and by the next iPhone click, it\u2019s very red.<\/p>\n The overlay and the upcoming \u201cTron: Ares\u201d film (in theaters Oct. 10) are now accompanied by music by Nine Inch Nails<\/a>. The movie soundtrack includes \u201cAs Alive As You Need Me to Be.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI wanted (this) to be a grittier version of \u2018Tron,\u2019 highlighting the contrast between the artificial world and the real world. I wanted it to have an industrial feeling to it,\u201d said \u201cAres\u201d director Joachim Ronning<\/a> in a Billboard interview<\/a>. \u201cI think it\u2019s already one of the more grown-up franchises at Disney, and it was important for me to take it to the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n Side note: Ronning also directed \u201cPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales\u201d<\/a> and \u201cMaleficent: Mistress of Evil.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n The ride\u2019s original music, courtesy of Daft Punk<\/a> (who contributed to \u201cTron: Legacy\u201d in 2010), can still be heard along the attraction plaza during the \u201cAres\u201d overlay.<\/p>\n Lighting effects continue inside the attraction, but it\u2019s mostly a swapping out of the original blue motif for a bright reddish-orange one.<\/p>\n In the tweaked story for the ride, your lightcycle gets hacked by Master Control with the goal of spreading his code in the grid. \u201cDo so, or be Derezzed,\u201d MC warns just before launch.<\/p>\n The coaster hasn\u2019t had physical changes to the rail, so the experience is similar to the past. But we might get a new WDW catchphrase out of it with the voiced-over \u201cExcellent work, the grid is now mine.\u201d<\/p>\n We don\u2019t know when the \u201cAres\u201d overlay is going away, but Disney has said it\u2019s for a limited time. (It\u2019s also been added temporarily to the original Tron ride at Shanghai Disneyland<\/a>.)<\/p>\n We do know that \u201cTron: Ares\u201d comes to theaters on Oct. 10. The film stars Jeff Bridges<\/a>, Gillian Anderson<\/a> and Jared Leto<\/a> as Ares. Disney released a video on its social media platforms<\/a> of Leto on the ride.
