\u201cLast Week Tonight\u201d host John Oliver on Sunday examined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s enduring hold on power and then suggested: \u201cI think people have seen a little too much at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Oliver argued it would be \u201cna\u00efve\u201d to pin all responsibility for the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza on Netanyahu, who meets with Donald Trump<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It would \u201cignore that while many Israelis vehemently disagree\u201d with his choices, said Oliver, \u201cthere\u2019s also a fair amount of consensus there when it comes to deeper issues like the inevitability of ongoing Israeli occupation in general and the acceptability of denying self-determination to Palestinians.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThose are conversations and issues that are going to take much longer and be much harder to resolve,\u201d said the comedian, who added: \u201cBut in the short term, Israelis removing this fucking guy from power might at the very least bring a stop to the horrific suffering in Gaza and bring the hostages home.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Israel\u2019s next national election is not required until October 2026, though Oliver noted it could come sooner if Netanyahu\u2019s coalition splits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt is worth asking, \u2018Just who is Netanyahu really looking out for?\u2019\u201d Oliver said. \u201cIs it the people of Israel who\u2019ve been put at risk by endless war? Or is it the man who\u2019s spent 17 years as prime minister and seems willing to do whatever it takes to squeeze out a few more?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He concluded, \u201cI would argue that it is the second one.\u201d Then he added that he looks forward to the day Netanyahu is \u201cpolitically done.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
