Madonna<\/strong><\/a> and her ex-husband, Guy Ritchie<\/strong>, were locked in a custody battle over their son Rocco<\/strong> in 2016 \u2014 and the \u201cMaterial Girl\u201d singer recently revealed that the situation took its toll on her mental health.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were moments in my life [where] I wanted to cut my arms off,\u201d Madonna, 67, told Jay Shetty<\/strong> during the Monday, September 29, episode of his podcast, On Purpose<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI actually contemplated suicide. That probably sounds really weird coming from me because I\u2019m not emo \u2026 but I was like, \u2018I can\u2019t take this pain anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The mom of six described the custody battle as \u201cone of the most painful moments of [her] life.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEven though my marriage didn\u2019t work out \u2026 someone trying to take my child away from me, it was like, \u2018They might as well just kill me,\u2019\u201d she continued. \u201cThat\u2019s what I was thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n Madonna and Ritchie, 57, began dating after meeting at a party in 1999, and they welcomed Rocco in August 2000. Four months later, the \u201cLike a Virgin\u201d singer and Ritchie officially tied the knot, and were married until 2008.<\/p>\n The situation regarding custody of their son was sparked in 2015 when Rocco, who was 15 at the time, refused to travel back from London to spend the holidays in New York with his mother.<\/p>\n It eventually required Madonna and the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels<\/em> director to work out a custody agreement after Rocco decided he wanted to live in England with his father.
