\n Perhaps Kendrick Lamar was speaking to the present and the future when he said during his Super Bowl halftime performance<\/a> months back that \u201cthe revolution \u2018bout to be televised.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The announcement Sunday that superstar Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny will headline the next Super Bowl halftime show <\/a>marks the second time in a row that the National Football League has co-signed an artist who is deemed \u201ccontroversial\u201d by some of the league\u2019s supporters.\n <\/p>\n

\n Lamar, a rapper from Compton, California, angered some conservative viewers with the political symbolism<\/a> he utilized during his performance at Super Bowl LIX in February..\n <\/p>\n

\n Some of the costumes, choreography and Lamar\u2019s lyrics referenced systemic inequality and racism in the United States, all while the game was attended by President Donald Trump.\n <\/p>\n

\n But while Lamar has mostly used his art to express his sentiments, Bad Bunny has been more overt about his dissatisfaction with the current administration.\n <\/p>\n

\n In 2024, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a> in her campaign for the presidency against Trump. He reposted a video of Harris in a speech referencing Trump\u2019s leadership during his first term in office after Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria in 2017.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader,\u201d Harris said in the video. \u201cHe abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes and offered nothing more than paper towels and insults.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Bad Bunny, whose non-stage name is Benito Antonio Mart\u00ednez Ocasio, made the post after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s remarks at a Trump rally in New York City in which he referred to Puerto Rico, a US commonwealth, as \u201ca floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Later, during an appearance on the New York Times \u201cPopcast\u201d podcast,<\/a> Ocasio explained that he was \u201cangry at the time\u201d as he was in New York City while the rally where Hinchcliffe made his comments was being held at nearby Madison Square Garden.\n <\/p>\n

\n Ocasio said he found the incident \u201cbothersome.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cYeah, I know it was a comedian, blah, blah, blah, but that wasn\u2019t a standup comedy show,\u201d Ocasio said. \u201cIt was supposed to be a political rally.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The music video for Bad Bunny\u2019s single \u201cNUEVAYol\u201d took aim at some of Trump\u2019s harsher policies, while also paying tribute to the artist\u2019s native Puerto Rico.\n <\/p>\n
