JK Rowling via Associated Press<\/span><\/p>\n JK Rowling<\/span> has once again taken aim at Harry Potter<\/span> actor Emma Watson<\/span>, who recently opened up about the rift that has grown between them.<\/p>\n For the last few years, the Wizarding World creator has become an increasingly controversial figure due to her commentary about issues relating to the transgender community.<\/p>\n This has included repeatedly and deliberately misgendering transgender public figures<\/a>, and donating tens of thousands of pounds to the campaign group<\/a> which raised the initial legal challenge that led to the UK Supreme Court\u2019s divisive ruling <\/a>that the legal definition of a woman should include only those who were assigned female at birth.<\/p>\n When Rowling first began facing criticism due to comments she\u2019d made about trans people<\/a> in 2020, Emma issued a brief statement<\/a> in support of the community, which read: \u201cTrans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren\u2019t who they say they are.<\/p>\n \u201cI want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n Emma Watson via Associated Press<\/span><\/p>\n Harry Potter stars <\/span>Daniel Radcliffe<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Rupert Grint<\/span><\/a> issued similar statements to Emma in 2020, and in the years since, Rowling has claimed that the trio <\/span>should \u201csave their apologies\u201d<\/span><\/a> (when one X user claimed that they owed her one), and later reportedly <\/span>alluded to the fact the group had \u201cruined\u201d the original run of films for her<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n At the 2022 Baftas, Emma also appeared to make another display of solidarity with the trans community when she insisted she was \u201c<\/span>here for <\/span>all <\/span>the witches\u201d while presenting an award.<\/span><\/p>\n During <\/span>an interview with podcaster Jay Shetty<\/span><\/a> last week, Emma was asked how things stand between herself and Rowling now, to which she responded: \u201cI really don\u2019t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can\u2019t and don\u2019t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don\u2019t get to keep and cherish.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Noting she is \u201cmost upset\u201d that a \u201cconversation\u201d between herself and Rowling was \u201cnever made possible\u201d, she added: \u201cIt\u2019s my deepest wish that I hope that people who don\u2019t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don\u2019t necessarily share the same opinion with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Over the weekend, Rowling indirectly responded to Emma\u2019s comments on X<\/a>, but addressed them more explicitly in a lengthier post on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n Reposting a GB News<\/span> debate about the Little Women star\u2019s remarks, Rowling wrote: \u201c<\/span>I\u2019m not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. Until quite recently, I hadn\u2019t managed to throw off the memory of children who needed to be gently coaxed through their dialogue in a big scary film studio. For the past few years, I\u2019ve repeatedly declined invitations from journalists to comment on Emma specifically, most notably on [the Tortoise podcast series] The Witch Trials of JK Rowling. Ironically, I told the producers that I didn\u2019t want her to be hounded as the result of anything I said.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Rowling then turned her attention to Emma\u2019s speech at the TV Baftas. In the accompanying GB News clip, the presenters allude to speculation that the actor\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m here for <\/a><\/span>all <\/span><\/a>the witches\u201d comment was followed by her inaudibly mouthing \u201cbut one\u201d<\/a>.
