It\u2019s been two years since Ty Pennington<\/a> underwent emergency surgery<\/a> for an abscess that nearly blocked his airway, and he\u2019s feeling better than ever.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was so crazy. It\u2019s one of those freak things that could happen to anybody, but it\u2019s crazy how risky it was,\u201d Pennington shared in an interview with OK!<\/a> published on Tuesday, September 30. \u201cIt definitely shed light on how important it is to stay healthy for others. I am definitely on top of that, and I am taking care of myself. When you have pets in your life, you\u2019re happier and you take better care of yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n While Pennington had \u201cno idea\u201d what was happening at the time, he enjoyed how the \u201cattention\u201d of his health scare showed him \u201chow much people love.\u201d He explained, \u201cI was like, \u2018This is great, people care!\u2019 I am much better, and I\u2019m around to take care of everybody else. Who would have guessed the hyperactive kid would be the one looking after everybody else? That\u2019s the beauty of life \u2014 there are curveballs!\u201d<\/p>\n Back in July 2023, the Rock the Block<\/a><\/em> host revealed via Instagram<\/a> that he was hospitalized after realizing he \u201ccould barely breathe.\u201d He wrote, \u201cTurns out, that sore throat I\u2019ve had for the last month was actually an abscess which had grown so large it was closing off my airway. Next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver. Wednesday I had surgery and yesterday afternoon I was released from the ICU<\/p>\n \ufffd\ufffd\ufffd\ufffd<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n .\u201d<\/p>\n In addition to thanking the hospital staff who helped him recover, Pennington also reminded fans to \u201cLISTEN to your body when it\u2019s telling you something<\/p>\n \ufffd\ufffd<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n \ufffd\ufffd<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n .\u201d<\/p>\n Despite his health scare, Pennington told OK! that he is still sometimes in \u201cdenial\u201d of his age. \u201cI certainly don\u2019t act feel it or act like it!\u201d the 60-year-old said. \u201cThe thing about TV is that you can\u2019t force anything \u2014 what\u2019s meant to come will come to you. I love what I am doing now. I\u2019m the old guy that has been doing it forever. I still get to keep my sense of humor, and I love working with people and being able to lend a hand up to the next generation.\u201d<\/p>\n Pennington previously reflected on his health scare experience in a March 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt made me realize you just don\u2019t know when your timecard\u2019s gonna get pulled, so wake up, live every single day to the fullest,\u201d he shared. \u201cI mean that\u2019s why the 60s is gonna be like time to start doing everything and that\u2019s what I love about being part of these projects because I think we all want to make sure we\u2019ve done things to be remembered.\u201d<\/p>\n Pennington gave fans another health update<\/a> earlier this year, telling Fox News<\/a> in February that he was in \u201creally good health.\u201d He added, \u201cI had no idea, like, an abscess like that could even happen. So I was, like, in shock.
