George Clooney <\/b>has cracked the code to a happy, lasting marriage \u2014 and he\u2019s not shy about giving wife Amal<\/b> all the credit.<\/p>\n

Just two days after the duo celebrated their 11th anniversary, the Hollywood icon revealed the key to their lasting love during an exclusive chat with People<\/i><\/a> at the New York Film Festival on September 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe greatest lesson I learned is to marry the right person, which I did,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cAnd so, it has been nothing but an honor and a pleasure to be married to my wife.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clooney, 64, also shared that he and Amal, 47, celebrated the milestone with a dinner date.<\/p>\n

The pair met in July 2013 at Clooney\u2019s Lake Como home when Amal<\/b> was passing through Italy with a mutual friend. In 2015, the actor<\/a> confessed to Charlie Rose <\/a>that he immediately knew Amal was the one \u2014 but after nearly two years of dating, the proposal didn\u2019t go quite as planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a disaster,\u201d Clooney admitted during an October 2022 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show<\/a>,<\/i> explaining that he had directed Amal to a drawer where the ring was hidden, but she was confused when she found it.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s like, \u2018There\u2019s a ring in there\u2019 \u2014 like somebody left a ring there years ago,’\u201d he recalled. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, on my knee.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the botched proposal, the pair got their happily ever after: In 2014, they tied the knot in a splashy, star-studded wedding in Venice, Italy, before welcoming twins Alexander<\/strong> and Ella<\/strong>, now 8, in 2017.<\/p>\n

As Star<\/i> recently reported<\/a>, Amal is making sure to protect her relationship with George and their family bond by keeping a \u201cphone basket\u201d at the family\u2019s English countryside home.<\/p>\n
