Paul Bettany <\/a>says he can\u2019t rewatch A Knight\u2019s Tale<\/a><\/strong> following the tragic death of Heath Ledger<\/a>.<\/p>\n In 2001, Bettany and Ledger appeared together in A Knight\u2019s Tale, a medieval action comedy about a peasant squire who attempts to become a hero by winning a jousting tournament. Ledger plays the squire, William Thatcher, and Bettany portrays a young Geoffrey Chaucer, who will go on to become the famous English poet.<\/p>\n During a recent appearance at L.A. Comic Con, Bettany was asked about A Knight\u2019s Tale and if fans approach him to recite some of Chaucer\u2019s most famous lines. Unfortunately, Bettany has no recollection of those quotes because of a heartbreaking reason.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a really long time ago,\u201d Bettany said to the crowd via EW<\/a>. \u201cIt was like another lifetime ago. And people do come up sometimes, people come up to me on the street and quote things at me, and I literally can\u2019t remember. I can\u2019t remember any of it.<\/p>\n Bettany added, \u201cI saw [the film] when it first came out. I\u2019ve never seen it again since. There are lots of reasons for that, and just one of them is that I miss Heath too much.\u201d<\/p>\n Ledger died in 2008 at the age of 28.<\/p>\n In A Knight\u2019s Tale, William Squire wants to compete in jousting tournaments in 14th-century Europe. Only nobles can compete in tournaments, so he needs to fake his identity. Chaucer agrees to forge a nobility patent so William can compete under the alias Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein from Gelderland.<\/p>\n Besides Ledger and Bettany, A Knight\u2019s Tale starred Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, and Alan Tudyk.<\/p>\n Brian Helgeland<\/a> wrote and directed A Knight\u2019s Tale, which is based on Chaucer\u2019s story from The Canterbury Tales.
