Atlas Entertainment is developing a feature adaptation of Tom Wolfe\u2019s landmark 1968 counterculture book \u201cThe Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test\u201d for Sony Pictures, TheWrap confirmed Tuesday. The project is still in early development, but already on the bus are Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen, the writing team behind the Apple TV+ series \u201cHello Tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Atlas founder Charles Roven will produce, with vice president of production Ryan Sanak overseeing and joining as a producer. Alexandra Wolfe, Tommy Wolfe and Daryn Roven will serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n
The book chronicles \u201cOne Flew Over the Cuckoo\u2019s Nest\u201d author Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters\u2019 cross-country journey aboard a converted 1939 International Harvester school bus they named \u201cFuthur\u201d to visit Timothy Leary. That long, strange trip \u2013 and its somewhat disappointing end, as the two crowds didn\u2019t exactly vibe \u2013 heavily influenced late \u201960s counterculture, LSD experimentation and were important in the genesis of the Grateful Dead.<\/p>\n
Wolfe\u2019s immersive reporting style became a touchstone of the New Journalism movement that included writers like Hunter S. Thompson, Gay Talese and Truman Capote. <\/p>\n
Directors are said to be in discussions to get onboard, but no names have surfaced yet. The writers are represented by John Burnham at Atlas Artists. Alexandra Wolfe is represented by CAA. Deadline first reported the news.<\/p>\n
