Create and connect at Art and Write Night<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Friday<\/strong>: Unleash your inner creative at Art and Write Night at the Museum of Natural History<\/a>. The annual program series returns for the school year, every first Friday of each month. Happening from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, guests will meet in the Hageboeck Hall of Birds (Bird Hall) on the third Floor of Macbride Hall<\/a>. The event is free and open to the public.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Celebrate Iowa City\u2019s songwriting community<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Saturday: <\/strong>A key event during the Iowa City Songwriters Festival<\/a>, the Englert Theatre<\/a> is teaming up with local organizations and artists for the \u201cCollaboration, Community & Craft\u201d panel. The free panel will start at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, in Iowa City Public Library<\/a>. The Family Folk Machine<\/a> and other Iowa City artists will share insights on building a musical community through collaboration and creativity. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Kick off spooky season at Public Space One <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Saturday:<\/strong> Public Space One\u2019s<\/a> \u201cOne of Us\u201d brings together independent horror publishers and writers for a special reading. \u201cOne of Us\u201d is free and open to the public from 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Live from the Northside, it\u2019s Saturday night<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Saturday: <\/strong>The free weekly concert series<\/a> is celebrating the Songwriters Festival with mars hojilla<\/a>, an Illinois-based pop-rock band. The trio, fronted by Myles Evangelista, has made waves since debuting in 2022, with pop- and emo-inspired music. The group will take the outdoor stage on Linn Street from 6 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 6. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Savor seasonal flavors at the Taste of Heirloom Tomatoes<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Sunday: <\/strong>Heirloom tomato season is in full swing, and to celebrate the popular tomato variety, the\u00a0Iowa City Master Gardeners<\/a> are hosting the 10th annual Taste of Heirloom Tomatoes from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7. Several tomato dishes will be available to sample on the east lawn of the Plum Grove Historical Home<\/a> at 1030 Carroll St. Other highlights include a seed-saving demonstration, live music from Farrah Joan-Marie, and tours of the historic home of Iowa’s first \\governor, Robert Lucas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
