Any fans of Oscar-winning actor Sir Gary Oldman will be buzzing to know he’s just received a knighthood for his services to drama.<\/p>\n

The 67-year-old A-lister<\/a> boasts a multitude of accolades throughout his decade-spanning career, including his portrayal of the fan-favourite role of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter<\/em><\/a> film franchise, as well as his starring role in The Darkest Hour<\/em>, which saw him sweep the 2018 awards season, winning an Academy Award<\/a> and a BAFTA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sir Gary accepted the honour from Prince William<\/a> at Windsor Castle on Tuesday (30 September), saying he felt ‘very emotional’ after receiving it.<\/p>\n

During the milestone moment, the Prince of Wales – who told Sir Gary he was a fan of the TV<\/a> series he stars in, Slow Horses<\/em> – made a light-hearted comment about the hygiene of his unkempt character, Jackson Lamb.<\/p>\n

Sir Gary Oldman received a knighthood from Prince William on Tuesday (30 September) (PA)<\/cite><\/div>\n

William told Sir Gary that every time he sees him on screen as the veteran MI5 agent, he feels compelled to give him a good hosing down.<\/p>\n

“I just want to give you a good wash,” Sir Gary recalled William saying.<\/p>\n

The actor said he joked in reply: “Well, I think I\u2019ve scrubbed up OK today.”<\/p>\n

He also noted that was ‘a lot of fun’ playing Jackson Lamb on the Apple TV+ show, adding: “He\u2019s got sort of an acid wit, sarcastic, he drinks too much, smokes too much, eats all the wrong things.<\/p>\n

“Who wouldn\u2019t want to play that?”<\/p>\n

After being awarded the knighthood, Sir Gary said: “It was emotional. Very emotional. We spoke (for) a minute, but I almost couldn\u2019t find my voice.<\/p>\n

“I think I feel very honoured, very humbled and flattered, I think in equal measure.<\/p>\n

“It compares to nothing else. It\u2019s a singular event, that is what it is.”<\/p>\n

The True Romance<\/em> star continued: “I thought the Oscar was a big deal. No disrespect to the academy, but it sort of pales in comparison to this. It\u2019s just been wonderful.”<\/p>\n

Speaking about his conversation with the prince, Sir Gary added: “He mentioned The Fifth Element<\/em> and Churchill of Darkest Hour<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“He said he was very happy that I was here today and that it was he who had the opportunity to present me with (the honour).”<\/p>\n

Sir Gary made his directorial debut with a semi-autobiographical piece about his childhood titled Nil by Mouth<\/em> in 1997.<\/p>\n

The acclaimed film earned him Baftas for outstanding British film and best original screenplay in 1998.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
