Government offices closed at 1pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Imelda\u2019s abrupt turn for the island came about after the close passage of Hurricane Humberto last night, which pulled the companion storm in a seldom-seen phenomenon known as the Fujiwhara effect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">As of 6pm, the Bermuda Weather Service <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/weather.bm\/maps\/TropicalStormInfo.asp?WTNTnum=WTNT24&amp;2025101185436\" id=\"link-e3e34affa58b35cd7a88f3f8869ae03d\" target=\"_blank\">stated <\/a>that Imelda, moving east-northeast at 22mph, had reached 190 miles to the island\u2019s west-southwest.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.rgb.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=4d12be23-1053-5f27-b875-f5d94668704f&amp;type=primary&amp;function=cover&amp;source=false&amp;width=800\" uuid=\"4d12be23-1053-5f27-b875-f5d94668704f\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Watch Hill Park in Smith\u2019s (Photograph by Owain Johnston-Barnes)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The trajectory puts it on course to reach Bermuda at 1am. Falling within 30 miles, the impact is considered a direct hit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Imelda maintained winds of 100mph as of 6pm, gusting up to 120mph. The public were advised to avoid the water, where dangerous sea conditions continue to ramp up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The airport dump shut its doors at 1pm, with the Marsh Folly composting Facility and Tynes Bay commercial drop-off both closing at 3pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Schools, both public and private, are closed through Thursday. Stay indoors, remain off the roads until an official announcement is made that the roads are safe and follow only official sources of information as we ride out Hurricane Imelda together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">At 6.30pm, he added: \u201cWe are a resilient people.
