The long developing Highlander <\/em>reboot is in that wonderful period where castings start to align, and production is so close you can taste it. Of course, that last bit would have happened sooner if it wasn\u2019t for Henry Cavill\u2019s recent and unfortunate injury<\/a> forcing the shoot to postpone until next January. Still that\u2019s more time to announce some A+ casting, and with Jeremy Irons now being added to the roster!<\/p>\n

As you could guess, it sounds like he\u2019s not exactly on the side of Cavill\u2019s Connor MacLeod, as THR<\/a> reported the legendary actor Highlander\u2019s <\/em>\u201csecond protagonist.\u201d While he won\u2019t be playing The Kurgen, as that\u2019s Dave Bautista\u2019s job, Irons role does<\/em> have this description:<\/p>\n

\u201c…the leader of a secret order called The Watchers, who are keeping an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Specifying Jeremy Irons as a \u201cprotagonist\u201d rather than a \u201cvillain\u201d feels like a particularly powerful distinction. It doesn\u2019t sound like he\u2019ll be an out and out bad guy, but more of a rule-bound authority figure who disapproves of how Connor MacLeod and his mentor Ramirez (Russell Crowe) weave in and out of mortal history.<\/p>\n
