Producer Jerry Bruckheimer<\/a> recently shared a significant update about the status of Top Gun 3<\/a> <\/strong>with Tom Cruise<\/a>.<\/p>\n While speaking at TheWrap\u2019s\u00a0TheGrill 2025 conference<\/a>, Bruckheimer spoke about his list of upcoming projects. One of those movies is Top Gun 3, the third entry into the aviation action franchise.<\/p>\n According to Bruckheimer, Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote Top Gun: Maverick<\/a>, is expected to turn in the latest draft for Top Gun 3 next month.<\/p>\n Top Gun 3 was first announced in January 2024. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski<\/a> is expected to direct the third movie. Cruise is attached to return as Pete \u201cMaverick\u201d Mitchell. The plan for Top Gun 3 is to pair Cruise with Miles Teller<\/a> and Glen Powell<\/a>, who played Bradley \u201cRooster\u201d Bradshaw and Jake \u201cHangman\u201d Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick.<\/p>\n In May, Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Christopher McQuarrie revealed that he and Kruger \u201ccracked the story<\/a>\u201d for Top Gun 3.<\/p>\n \u201cEhren Kruger pitched something, and I went, \u2018Mhm, actually,\u2019 and we had one conversation about it, and the framework is there,\u201d McQuarrie said. \u201cSo, no, it\u2019s not hard to crack. The truth of the matter is, none of these are hard to crack.\u201d<\/p>\n Top Gun 3 has no release date attached at Paramount. Kosinski is attached to direct the Miami Vice<\/a> reboot, which hits theaters on August 6, 2027. Production on Miami Vice is expected to begin in 2026. If Paramount still wants Kosinski to direct Top Gun 3, the earliest it could come out is likely 2028.<\/p>\n After nearly 40 years, the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun finally arrived. 2022\u2019s Top Gun: Maverick became a critical hit and financial success, grossing over $1.4 billion worldwide.
