For her latest appearance on Today<\/a><\/em>, Hoda Kotb<\/a> received a special surprise from her former colleagues.<\/p>\n \u201cHoda\u2019s got a new book<\/a> called Jump and Find Joy<\/em><\/a>,\u201d Savannah Guthrie<\/a> stated on the Thursday, October 2, episode of Today<\/em>. \u201cWe found a story that we think you\u2019re gonna love. It really fits with that mantra of jump and find something new. This is a journey that combines two of your favorite things, music and taking a very big leap.\u201d<\/p>\n What followed was a video package highlighting America\u2019s Got Talent<\/a><\/em> Season 20 contestant Chuck Adams, whose audition<\/a> performance of \u201cIris\u201d by the Goo Goo Dolls took the internet by storm. \u201cI got a call, like, \u2018You know, this thing is going kind of crazy. There\u2019s millions and millions and millions of views,’\u201d Adams recalled in the prerecorded clip.<\/p>\n Among the millions of people who loved Adams\u2019 performance was Kotb, who shared his audition with her fans via Instagram earlier this year. \u201cI love that Hoda was moved by the performance, and that it can lead to something like this,\u201d Adams stated.<\/p>\n Adams faced ups and downs on his musical journey, having spent a decade in the hip-hop industry before being dropped from his first record deal. He later pivoted to country music and moved to Nashville to further pursue his dreams.<\/p>\n \u201cI was doing my thing in Nashville, and my mother says, \u2018You should go on AGT<\/em>.\u2019 This isn\u2019t the first time she said it. She said this for years,\u201d Adams shared. \u201cSomething about this season, where things were different. I felt different about life, about trying new things.\u201d<\/p>\n The package concluded with Adams stating that \u201ctaking the jump for me is always the way to go,\u201d adding, \u201cI don\u2019t really regret things or look back.\u201d<\/p>\n In true Today<\/em> fashion, Kotb\u2019s former cohosts surprised her with Adams live in Studio 1A. \u201cThat moment that you had on AGT<\/em> was so incredibly moving,\u201d she gushed, going on to add, \u201cYou literally sing and people\u2019s eyes well up. Like, that\u2019s such a gift.\u201d<\/p>\n Kotb continued, \u201cI am so proud of you and so happy for you, \u2019cause I think a lot of people might have after a couple of setbacks, like after getting dropped by a record label, you might say, \u2018Maybe this wasn\u2019t for me.’\u201d<\/p>\n Adams thanked Kotb for her kind words, stating, \u201cThat\u2019s why I appreciate you posting it and your story. It makes me feel seen and comforted a little bit.\u201d He proceeded to make Kotb tear up with an a cappella performance of \u201cIris,\u201d which she called \u201cbeautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n Adams\u2019 AGT<\/em> audition scored four yeses from judges Simon Cowell<\/a>, Sof\u00eda Vergara<\/a>, Howie Mandel<\/a>, and Mel B.<\/a>. However, he was eliminated from the competition during the Season 20 Quarterfinals.<\/p>\n Kotb released her new book, Jump and Find Joy: Embracing Change in Every Season of Life<\/em>, last month. In the book, Kotb opens up about the personal and professional jumps she\u2019s taken over the years.<\/p>\n
