The Princess of Wales<\/a>\u00a0took control of a flight simulator as she visited RAF<\/a> Coningsby for the first time – on a trip that has a poignant link to her grandfather.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kate, 43, today carried out her first visit to the Lincolnshire station in her role as Royal Honorary Air Commodore, having been appointed to the role in August 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The royal was elegantly dressed in a smart, slim fit Bella Freud grey check suit for the occasion, paired with a top from Alexander McQueen and heels from Stuart Weitzman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She tied back her newly lightened blonde locks for an elegant, yet practical look during the engagement, which is designed to give her a first hand introduction to the base and the work they do as part of the RAF.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

After landing via helicopter and being transported via Range Rover, Kate heard about the work of the Royal Air Force on recent operations, including supporting NATO<\/a>‘s work in Poland<\/a>, before taking a look inside a Typhoon jet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Princess was even given her own opportunity to take to the skies as she tried out a flight simulator, used by pilots for extra practice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

She appeared to be wearing a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana<\/a>\u00a0and pinned a gold winged RAF brooch to her blazer, which she previously wore on VE Day back in May.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The detail hinted at the poignant significance of the engagement for the princess, due to her\u00a0family connections to the RAF.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kate’s paternal grandfather served as a fighter pilot during the Second World War and flew with the late Duke of Edinburgh in the 1960s.<\/p>\n

Captain Peter Middleton – who was the Duke’s co-pilot on flights across South America during a royal tour – died at the age of 90 just days before the Prince and Princess announced their engagement in 2010.<\/p>\n

Kate was appointed to the Royal Honorary Air Commodore at the RAF bases in 2023, when\u00a0King Charles<\/a> reshuffled the royal family<\/a>‘s military appointments, also adopting the position of Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The title was previously held by her husband, who had performed the role at the Lincolnshire base for 15 years from 2008, while the Fleet role was previously held by Prince Andrew before it was stripped from him over his US civil assault case with Virginia Giuffre.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, Kate was not joined on this occasion by her husband William<\/a>, who has previously taken to the skies himself<\/a>\u00a0at the RAF base.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As she enjoyed refreshments in the communal area today, Kate was given cuddly plane toys for her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Upon receiving the gift, she said her three children would ‘absolutely love’ them, according to Lincolnshire Live<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She was also given a cup of tea by staff and was clearly impressed, saying: ‘It’s a very good cup of tea.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

As she continued her solo visit, Kate met Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) personnel – the RAF’s 24\/7 mission to protect airspace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This means that, when airspace controllers detect a potential threat or unidentified aircraft, they will trigger an alert and prompt Typhoons to be prepared for interception.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During her visit, Kate viewed one of these aircrafts, before visiting the Typhoon Future Synthetic Training facility – a newly opened site which provides integrated training environments for pilots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Lincolnshire base is home to two frontline squadrons and is the training station for Typhoon pilots.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

Finally, the royal mother-of-three visited a communal space called ‘The Lounge’, where she met members of the welfare team and personnel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As she departed, she also met with families and young children – all keen to catch a glimpse of the royal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last week, the\u00a0Princess of Wales<\/a>\u00a0made a visit to Southport – and again was the picture of elegance with her ‘bronde’ tresses.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kate and William were there to privately meet with the grieving parents of tragic stabbing victim Elsie Dot Stancombe, making an appearance at her former school.<\/p>\n

The royal couple\u00a0made an\u00a0emotional return to the city to offer their ongoing support for families affected by the tragic murders, after first visiting last year.<\/p>\n

The Princess was sophisticated as ever for the occasion, accentuating her smart suit and coat with golden locks that showed off a freshly lightened glow in the sun.<\/p>\n

Kate first debuted her blonder hair last month, and has since been showered with compliments for the honey-tone of her new look.<\/p>\n

Experts have also remarked on the versatility of the style, as well as the fresh new aesthetic it brings.<\/p>\n

They also met privately with Elsie\u2019s parents Jenni and David in the headteacher\u2019s office. Along with Alice’s father Sergio Aguiar, David ran the London Marathon in April in memory of their daughters and the Prince and Princess donated to their fundraising efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The princess told pupils: ‘I\u2019m very impressed with all of you and all the hard work you\u2019re doing. What a fantastic thing to learn to raise money to help other people. Keep up your hard work.’<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, Kate was seen wearing a cowboy hat<\/a> as she wished England’s Red Roses good luck in their match against\u00a0Canada<\/a> in the Women’s Rugby World Cup<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She is patron of the Rugby Football Union, a role she took over from <\/span>Prince Harry<\/a> in 2020 when he stepped down as a working royal and moved to the US with <\/span>Meghan Markle<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking to the social media platform she shares with her husband Prince William<\/a>, 43, Kate wrote: ‘Good luck England! Wishing the very best of luck to the @redrosesrugby in their Women’s Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham today. We’re so proud of you! C.’<\/p>\n
