But following the recent split between her and husband of 19 years, it\u2019s time to take a walk down memory lane to revisit the celebrity she was briefly engaged to in the early aughts, who was singer and Hunger Games star Lenny Kravitz<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Babygirl actress has stayed connected to the Kravitz family throughout the years. Nicole nearly became the step-mom of her Big Little Lies costar Zo\u00eb Kravitz.<\/p>\n

How did Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz meet<\/h3>\n

Nicole reportedly met the rock musician in 2002, according to People. Coincidentally, Nicole was subletting Lenny\u2019s Manhattan apartment while her West Village apartment was being renovated.<\/p>\n

He must have been a great landlord because during that time, they connected and fell for each other. They started dating at some point in 2003.<\/p>\n

They kept this relationship under wraps and denied reports that they were an item. However, they were spotted at high-profile events together, such as magician David Copperfield\u2019s birthday party and Gregory Hines\u2019 tribute at the Apollo theater.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re very close,\u201d Nicole’s spokeswoman Leslee Dart said at the time to People<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s very important to her. Beyond that, I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s engagement period<\/h3>\n

In late 2003, US Weekly<\/a> broke the news that Lenny popped the question to Nicole, which was 14 years before Nicole actually confirmed that this was all true.<\/p>\n

At the time, Nicole and Lenny were both single working parents living in Manhattan and were both family oriented. Ultimately, the wedding never materialized.<\/p>\n

The couple split in December of 2003 after spending Thanksgiving together at Lenny\u2019s Miami home, according to People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t really want a relationship,\u201d Nicole told Vanity Fair<\/a> in 2007 without confirming it was Kravitz she was engaged to. \u201cI just wanted my kids to have me, and I didn\u2019t feel comfortable having some person in that small hubbub. And then I got engaged to somebody \u2026 but it just wasn\u2019t right. I wasn\u2019t ready. We weren\u2019t ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What have Nicole and Lenny said about each other over the years?\u00a0<\/h3>\n

Nicole has stayed in contact with the Kravitz family to a certain extent over the years, as she has worked with Lenny\u2019s daughter Zo\u00eb on TV projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I knew Zo\u00eb because I was engaged to her father. It\u2019s all in the family! I love Lenny; he\u2019s a great guy,\u201d Nicole told Vanity Fair.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Nicole] can be quiet and shy, which is interesting because the beast of an actress that she is, is so loud and clear. She\u2019s so good that sometimes it was distracting. After every take I wanted to just stop and say, \u2018Wow,\u2019\u201d Zo\u00eb stated in the interview.<\/p>\n

While we don\u2019t know the reasons for why the couple split, with what little they have said about each other, it has all been positive.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Mr Porter\u2019s The Journal, Lenny spoke highly of Nicole, saying, \u201cNicole is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Continuing, he added, \u201cZo\u00eb and she hadn\u2019t spent time together since she was younger, since Nicole and I were together, so that was great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kidman fondly talked about her relationship with her almost-step-daughter in an interview with Elle in 2020, following the pair working together on the popular HBO series Big Little Lies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel protective, like a big sister, toward her,” she said, \u201cShe is carving her own path with confidence and grace. She\u2019s having a big moment now, but it\u2019s only going to get bigger. She\u2019s a triple threat because she can dance, sing and act.
