NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) \u2014 Country music star Morgan Wallen<\/a> denied to police that he threw a chair off a Nashville honky-tonk bar roof before and after he was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in 2024, police video obtained by The Associated Press shows.<\/p>\n Roughly two weeks after his April 2024 arrest, Wallen commented on social media<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility\u201d and said he \u201cmade amends\u201d with Nashville law enforcement and others. Then in December, he pleaded guilty to two counts.<\/p>\n The Metro Nashville Police Department released the footage of Wallen\u2019s arrest, captured by several officers\u2019 body and cruiser cameras, in response to a public records request from the AP. A previously released arrest affidavit did not get into the details of what Wallen told officers.<\/p>\n A police car camera shows two officers, who were standing outside, react to something apparently falling from above on a late Sunday night. And one officer\u2019s body camera video begins with a shot of a broken chair in the road near his parked police cruiser, close to Chief\u2019s on Broadway, in the city\u2019s entertainment district.<\/p>\n Then, as Wallen and his bodyguard team come down to the main entrance on Broadway, one of the men with Wallen is shouting, \u201cHe didn\u2019t see anything. You don\u2019t have witnesses, you are accusing!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe didn\u2019t throw nothing, he didn\u2019t throw nothing,\u201d the bodyguard continues, and accuses two bar workers of \u201cbeing aggressive.\u201d<\/p>\n When an officer asks Wallen what happened, the musician replies, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n He later tells another officer, \u201cWe\u2019ve not tried to cause no problems, man. I don\u2019t know what they are \u2014 I don\u2019t know why.\u201d<\/p>\n That officer said police were figuring out what happened after a chair came flying off the roof and landed by his patrol car. Wallen replied, \u201cAs you should.\u201d<\/p>\n Wallen was talkative in the cruiser, the footage shows, saying, \u201cI ain\u2019t done nothing wrong,\u201d and pressing the officer for his favorite country musicians.<\/p>\n \u201cI can tell you my top three right now,\u201d the officer replies. \u201cYou\u2019re honestly one of them.\u201d One of Wallen\u2019s songs with Thomas Rhett<\/a> comes on from the officer\u2019s playlist.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is me and Thomas Rhett! Turn it up. That\u2019s me and TR! He would definitely not be getting arrested,\u201d Wallen adds.<\/p>\n Wallen pleaded guilty in December 2024 to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. He was sentenced to spend seven days in a DUI education center and be under supervised probation for two years.<\/p>\n When the judge asked how he would plead, he said, \u201cConditionally guilty.\u201d His attorney has said the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement after he completes probation.<\/p>\n Wallen\u2019s own Nashville honky tonk, not far from Chief\u2019s, opened less than two months after his arrest.<\/p>\n At one point, Wallen is on his cellphone, then points it at the officer and says, \u201cEric Church is on the phone.\u201d Church, another country star,<\/a> co-owns Chief\u2019s. During the call, Wallen had used an expletive to describe the officers he said were \u201ctrying to take me to jail outside of your (expletive) bar.\u201d<\/p>\n Church, who can\u2019t be heard on the police recording, recommended to the officer that Wallen wait in a private space instead of standing on the public sidewalk, said a representative for Church.<\/p>\n The officer responds: \u201cIt\u2019s not really something we can do. Law enforcement have to enforce the laws. Figure out what happened. We\u2019ve got a supervisor coming to the scene. Gotta treat it like we would with anybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n Representatives for Wallen did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n Back in the bar, police were in an office watching security footage from the roof, body camera footage shows. The security video was not clear from the officers\u2019 body cameras and a police spokesperson said there was no security camera footage from the bar in the case files.<\/p>\n The officers return outside and a sergeant, who says he watched security video of Wallen throwing a chair off the roof, handcuffs him.<\/p>\n Another officer talks to two witnesses. One, referring to the chair, says she saw Wallen \u201clift it up and throw it off\u201d and laugh.<\/p>\n Throughout the hour-and-a-half ordeal, Wallen makes apologetic comments to officers without explicitly admitting to anything, including: \u201cI truly didn\u2019t mean no harm,\u201d \u201cSorry to cause problems, I didn\u2019t mean to,\u201d and \u201cGod damn it, I am sorry man.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe didn\u2019t admit to it, but we got him on camera doing it,\u201d one sergeant says after Wallen was cuffed, also noting police had witness statements.<\/p>\n Some fans took notice as Wallen stood surrounded by police in Nashville\u2019s busy tourist hub. One yells, \u201cWe love you Morgan!\u201d Once Wallen is in the back of the police car, he says to the officer, \u201cGet us out of here,\u201d noting that people were videotaping him.<\/p>\n Born and raised in Sneedville, Tennessee, the two-time Grammy nominee is one of the biggest names in contemporary popular music, loved for his earworm hooks and distinctive combination of bro country, dirt-rock and certain hallmarks of hip-hop. 2023\u2019s \u201cOne Thing at a Time\u201d broke Garth Brooks\u2019<\/a> record for longest running No. 1 country album, and this year\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m The Problem\u201d<\/a> spent 12 weeks at No. 1.<\/p>\n Wallen\u2019s career has been marked by several other controversies, including a 2020 arrest on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges after being kicked out of Kid Rock\u2019s<\/a> bar in downtown Nashville.
